"Listen To What They Say"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Said the right wing to the loyal few
“You must do what we say.
Even if we don’t have a clue.
You must do what we say.
Bring fear, my dear, obfuscate the facts.
Let us block what plans they enact.
And then wear them down with attacks.”

Yes, this right wing says they care for you.
Listen to what they say.
Hollow words echoing aloud
Listen to what they say.
“They’re mad, they’re bad, and they’ll make you broke.
Those plans are the worst kind of joke
Those plans are just mirrors and smoke.”

Said the thoughtful ones who have half a brain.
“If it’s bad, what’s your way?
All we hear is how bad they are.
Tell us now, what’s your way?
A plan, dear man, something that you lack.
Like the thing you forgot in Iraq.
Cos’ from here, you guys don’t know jack.”

Said the voters who voted for a change.
“Listen to what we say.
Rhetoric doesn’t mean a thing.
Listen to what we say.
For once, a chance to fix what’s wrong at last
Isn’t this your job and your task?
Meet the future, let go of the past.”

"I may disagree with what you have to say, but I defend to the death your right to say it." - Voltaire. "Ah, what the hell...this is funny." - Old Man Ribber.

I agree with Old Man Ribber. Your vision of the right is not my vision of the right, but this is very well constructed. And, of course, I completely agree with the "Rhetoric doesn’t mean a thing," line, which works both ways.

Marvelous lines and pacing. As an anarcho-libertarian, I believe that millions of motivated individuals, free to act in their own self interest will produce jobs and real health care availability (not just artificial claims to medical treatment someone else is expected to provide at a loss). A a right winger, I am thrilled to see genuine humor on the left. And, as an aspiring song writer, I enjoy seeing good parody writing in action. Keep up the good work.

Long time reader, first time poster. Thanks Old Man Ribber, I laugh at the right and the left, but mostly the right. John, you'll have no disagreement from me on rhetoric. Empty talk is not party specific. Thank you, Mr. Patrick. I like humor that bites a little, right or left. And to the folks who gave me ones and twos on pacing, oh come on. I know I nailed it.
