The Lyrics

"Jason" (he doesn't use a last name) did "I'm Living On the Bread Line." Trouble is, getting a job ain't easy when you don't have a car. Try walking 20 minutes in this heat to a bus stop, then stand out there in the heat because there's no shelter and no bench, and the bus is usually late, then walk another half-hour from the closest bus stop to the office to the actual office... and pay two dollars and fifteen cents for the privilege. And then, when the day is over, reverse the process. And people wonder why my parody output has gone down lately. I'm too tired!
(instrumental opening)

Ooh-woo
I bet you're wondering why I'm mean.
'Cause I'm waiting for the 815.
Bus driver guy! Yes, he's late once more
while the temperature is 94.
You shouldn't be surpri-ised, I must say
(I must say)
'cause he's running late again today.

Doncha know that
I'm waiting on the bus line.
So much longer, he ain't on time.
Baby, baby
I'm waiting on the bus line.
And I'm just about to lose my mind.
Honey, honey, yeah...
(Waiting on the bus line, so much longer, he ain't on time, baby)

I know a man ain't supposed to whine.
But my bus, it broke down on Route 9.
Losing time! Might end my job, you see
while this blazing sun is baking me.
I tried to tell the boss myself
(Tried to tell the boss myself)
but it doesn't seem to help!

People say it's a truck, that's what you see
son, and SUV, that's what you hear.
Well, I can't hide being confused
'cause it's night, I'm coming back again.
Back to home, I gotta go
then tomorrow, like I did before.

Honey, honey, I know
(Waiting on the bus line, so much longer, he ain't on time, baby)
that I just gotta go.

Said
I'm waiting on the bus line.
Ooh-woo
I'm waiting on the bus line
(repeat 'til fade)
Whatever happened to "Skip the bother, skip the fuss, take the Public Service bus?" With New Jersey Transit, it's "All bother, all fuss, no service for the public on our bus!" And we STILL have it better than most States!

Me and my big mouth: Today, instead of blazing heat, we got sheeting rain. I'm still soaked from waiting on the bus line.

Sounds like "Bus Stop" should be next on the line.

Maybe you should have used the Creedence version with Fogarty's long guitar solos

I'm with John Berry, you should do Wacko Jacko's Keep on to the bus stop about this, or then again you could always do The wreck of a bus from New Jersey... :-)

Clever spinoff and nice credit. I don't think any more clever puns could have been Kramden to this one. Route 555

Is "Honey, Honey, yeah" supposed to be to your wife to tell her you will be late?

Thanks, everyone. John: I just might. Tim: You could be right, although both the Marvin and CCR versions have a sense of menace to them. Peter: It wouldn't be all that hard, as I've got about 20 years' worth of riding experience from which to draw material. Tommy: For that pun, one of these days, one of these days, POW! Right in the kisser! Or snapper, since you're a turtle. 2Eagle: As yet, there is no wife, although, me an' Arwen, we've got a thing goin' on, you know, and we've been carryin' on for some time now, behind Aragorn's back. (To those who don't get the reference, check out the collected works of Ray Stevens.) Pip: "Well done," indeed, 'cause I was cooking, and not in a good way. Ann: May you never have to wait for a bus like that.
