The Lyrics

A few weeks ago, the press was taking note of Benedict XVI's brilliant-red shoes, and the inevitable Dorothy/Oz jokes followed. But what's wrong with looking marvelous? "Prêtre-à-porter" is a play on "prêt-à-porter," an adopted French fashion term meaning "ready to wear"; "prêtre" is "priest" in French. "Habemus haberdashery" is a play on "Habemus Papum, "We have a pope." "Sin 2": envy is the second of the seven deadly sins. "Square": St. Peter's. "Number 3: Actually, Lust is the fourth sin; Gluttony is third, but poetic license. "Mirabilis tuus vestitus!": Pidgin Latin for "Your clothing is marvelous!"
(Frocked)
Vestments in your wardrobe, Mr. Pope man
(Great)
Taste! Mr. Pope man

Hey, Mr. Pope man, crook* and See
(Ave)
Your vestments do not look like rags to me
(Tommy, Mr. Pope man?)
Your red shoes have really got a shine
(Armani?)
That chic chapeau on your dome's divine

When you walk, you sure sashay
Your couturier, Versace?
[alt: Is your couture prêtre-à-porter?]
Hey, Mr. Pope man, does Gucci
Make all the vestments, the vestments we see?

You've got outstanding raiment, Mr. Pope man
At Station 3
None of the cardinals looks better
In Rome, habemus haberdashery

(Mr. Pope man)
Mr. Pope man, looking sweet
(Oh yeah)
Your vestments complement shoes on your feet
Those red shoes have a halo-like shine
(Dorothy?)
Your taste is glorious; it's divine

I know that you're a Passion guy
But you have got a great fashion eye
I call you "Padre in Prada sweater"
Envious cards. should know Sin 2 better

(Mr. Pope man)
Mr. Pope man, Holy See!
(Oh yeah)
Your Square vestments look so fab on TV
[alt: I'm just a lecher, tagged with number 3]
(Neat sheets, Mr. Pope man)
I'm taken by your whole clothes line

(I bet at seminary, "best-dressed in vestry"; you've got great)
Taste in vestments
Taste in vestments
Mirabilis
Tuus vestitus!
(Mister Pope man)
Mister Pope man, crook and See

(The water makes it look better, when Pater pate's wetter)
Mr. Pope man

*as in a shepherd's crook

as usual, your wordplay was stunning but the line that really sent me into apoplexy was "That chic chapeau on your dome's divine"
