The Lyrics

PERSEPHONE was the beloved daughter of DEMETER the goddess of the harvest. HADES abducted Persephone and took her to the underworld where she was rescued by HERMES. She had eaten the seeds of a pomegranite given to her by Hades and therefore was doomed to return to the underworld. Demeter refused to let vegetation grow while Persephone was with Hades. Nemesis was the goddess of retrebution.
Persephone! Persephone! Persephone! Oiiyy vay!

One sunny day you went to play
Upon the meadow fair
The gods looked down as Hades rose
And dragged you to his lair.

"Persephone!" Cries Demeter
"Persephone!" Have you seen her?
Is she somewhere down below?
Did Nemesis tell her where to go?

How does he have a hold on you
That you dwell in the gloom?
Hermes found some strange red seeds
Of which you had consumed.

Persephone! Hear your mother!
Persephone! There are other -
Pumpkins in the pumpkin patch
You could have found a better match!

At sweet sixteen you're spoken for
The troll took you away
Poor Hermes lost Persephone
Hades married her today.

Persephone! Call your mother!
Persephone! Any bother?
Go spend Christmas down below
And leave me in the cold and snow!

Persephone! Persephone! I'll kill myself!

This song is now a "classic" in more ways than one.

I never got into Greek mythology, but it certainly makes a unique subject. you work this original song well..

I read these myths from childhood and I think the combination of these and teen age tragedy songs make a funny combination. This should be Tommy Turtle and Fiddlegirl's specialty.
