Thought I might channel my "inner Arendt" and do a couple of weapon themed parodies. The first one is about the Barret .50 cal Sniper rifle which shoots a round that strikes with five times the kinetic energy of an AK-47 round. The second tune, "I Fought The SAW and The SAW Won" is a takeoff on a goofy OS called "I Fought The Law and The Law Won." The weapon in question, the M249 SAW, is a portable one man machine gun that carries 200, 5.56MM rounds in its magazine. Basically, it allows American troops to bring a machine gun to a knife fight

When Lynyrd Skynyrd sings the the title lyrics they actually sing "Mr Saturday night (so) special" so, "Mr .50 cal sniper special" does match the pacing of the OS, as they sing it.

You could have broken these up as two entries, if you were in the numbers game. Both good songs, tech-wise. When .50 caliber rifles were banned for citizens in California, Barrett refused to service police owned rifles in protest. Good for him. A bit on the expensive side, but I see one at a gun show every now and then.

Patrick, I thought the "SAW song" was a bit too simple for a full submission so I appended it to the first song ... Couple of translatory notes .... Shahid -- Arab word for martyr that sounds closer to "two feet" in OS; Houri -- Arab word for "virgins" which sounds closer to the OS's "poker", which come to think of it, is what these jihadis think they'll do to a houri

Not bad CML, but I noticed that you dwell on US weapons as if they are the best- they're not. Germany in WW2 had a 20mm S-18-100 AT rifle and when the Barrett .50s came out (both conventional M82A-1and bullpup M82A-2) they were not sniping rifles but AMRs (Anti-Material Rifles) used by SFs to take out light armor, helos and aircraft parked on the ground, as well as concrete fortifications and reinforced obstacles. Early on the Austrians fielded a 15mm Steyr AMR and Hungary started out with a 12.7mm (.50 cal) Gepard followed by the 14.5mm Gepard 3. Russia has several .50s (12.7mm NSV and 14.5mm KPD) including non crew-served assault types. Israel had the IMI .50 handguns. The M249 SAW is just an adopted Belgian FN Minimi and the HK MG-4 is superior to both! UK uses variants of the GPMG and Israel uses the Negev. Other nations with .50s are RSA, China, Switzerland, Italy, UK, France, Croatia, Poland, Slovenia, S Korea, Ukraine, etc.. so nothing special. Germany has mounted NextGen 30mm recoilless guns on their Wiesels which are more powerful. And finally, the Australian Metalstorm weapons fire incredible rates that are walls of steel operating at 100s of thousands of rpms and special naval guns at a record 1 million rpm caseless electronic firing! Kinda makes a Barret look like a piece of outdated junk. The US needs better weapons and is trying to buy smart shotguns as well as the Kriss Vector SMG for CQB. Europeans tend to use light missile systems instead or tried and tested 40mm AGLs. The .50s are heavy to lug around and they take a 2 man crew. I would rather have a Panzerfaust 3 or PTR than a Barret anyday. Israel even has a Panzerfaust round Cornershot gun now courtesy of German co-operation! While the .50s are punching holes in things missiles and AGLs are destroying entire structures. .50s can be found at sporting good stores!!! Overkill from .300, .308, and .338LM hunting rifles. But hey-555! Just giving my $2 worth :)
