Song Parodies -> "They Will Follow Him"

Original Song Title:

"I Will Follow Him"

Original Performer:

Lesley Gore

Parody Song Title:

"They Will Follow Him"

Parody Written by:

Malcolm Higgins

The Lyrics

they love him they love him,
and blindly so they follow they follow..

they all follow him
follow him though little he does know
the teleprompter says sheep
are faithful today so just keep on talking today

they will follow him
follow him they buy the lies he sows
that near him the truth can not be
and nothing against him they peep
he's their destiny..

they love him they love him,
and blindly so they follow they follow..
he'll always be untrue though, untrue thou, untrue though
the sheep will bleat forever forever forever

they will follow him
follow him they buy the lies he sows
that near him the truth can not be
and nothing against him they peep
he's their destiny..
they love him they love him,
and blindly so they follow they follow..

they all follow him
follow him though little he does know
the teleprompter says sheep
are faithful today so just keep on talking today

1) TOS was by Little Peggie March, not Lesley Gore.
2) The content of the parody stunk. Quit making fun of the US president, he's doing the best he can. If Michael Pachloek were here, I'm sure he'd have a rant or two about this parody as well. 1s

How can you be so sure who this parody is about? I'm sure Obama is doing the best he can. Problem is, it's not the right thing to be doing. Unlike Rush Limbaugh, who has been the object of a couple of scathing parodies this week, I don't wish to see Obama fail, I want to see America succeed. As a student of history, I've read of these policies before, and they don't work. I attended an Obama rally last fall. He is indeed the object of worship. I saw sick people in wheel chairs being brought, as though he were Jesus and could heal them. We shall soon enough see that he is just a man, and an inexperienced one at that, in a job that's way beyond his capabilities. I don't know of anyone who could do it. The wisdom lies in being able to step back, and let the millions of Americans who know how to do their own jobs do them, reap the rewards, and fix the problems. Unfortunately, the President and the Congress cannot resist the urge to "do something". Until then, go look at my parody "God Save Barack Our King"

Patrick, I got the idea that it was about O'Bama (even though it's not explicitly stated) because this author has been needlessly slamming him lately and I'm bored with it. And I had to fight back by giving it 1s for the reasons I mentioned above, the second of which is that he used a performer who never even performed this OS.

Mr 1's,

1) Errors in singer or song title are not uncommon. They're worth noting, but not worth an entire 111.

2) Michael Pacholek is perfectly capable of ranting for himself, and often does. He doesn't need you to speak for him. He's also never been appointed Ultimate Authority here, so far as I know. He's entitled to his opinion, as are you and everyone else, and you shouldn't put words in his mouth. 3) Pacing is perfect. If you don't think the song is funny, that's your entitled opinion. Lots of discussions and guides here that pacing is not the same as content. 5 on pacing no matter what you think of the content. 4) Got a name? Also lots of discussions here that anonymous Unibombers are cowardly. 5) "Quit making fun of the US president,". You're right, no one did that when Bush was President. (sheesh!) Jay Leno, Jon Stewart, and plenty of other professional comedians see it as their duty to satirize all in power, whether Clinton, Bush, or Obama.. By putting Obama above such critique, you're actually proving the parody to be correct. (Logic 101) 6) Last, and funniest of all:
"TOS was by Little Peggie March..."

It's PEGGY, not "Peggie". If you're going to correct peeps, make sure you're correct :-) Have a great day!
The Real Song Title Cop - March 20, 2009 - Report this comment
He didn't get the song title wrong, he got the performer name wrong. That's where the PERFORMER COP comes in. Peggie, Peggy, what difference does it make? The point is that Lesley Gore is a completely different performer, and she never did perform TOS. It's probably worthy of a 5-1-1. Now back off.

A couple weeks ago someone posted a vicious slam against certain mentally handicapped people. It was properly removed a day later. The President of the United States, as a public figure who seeks notoriety, is fair game for praise or parody. Same goes for Congress, State Governors, politicians of all stripes, Hollywood starlets and others who seek to be famous for being famous. President Obama's children are off limits, as is his wife. I would draw the line at personal attacks. His policies, successes and failures are OK for lampooning. May I suggest that if someone has a different view of the President (or any other issue that arises here) that he express his opinions in a song. That is what this site is really about. There are plenty of other venues on the internet for assaulting and ranting in prose.

Patrick, I was responsible in part for getting the disability-related, derogatory parody deleted. I also agree with your comments and sentiments

While I disagree with the opinion expressed in the parody, I have to step in here and say everyone has a right to his or her opinion so long as it's expressed correctly. and everyone, LESLEY GORE DID DO A VERSION OF THIS SONG. You do not have to parody the 'original artists' version, As much as I disagree with Malcom Higgin's opinions, it's his opinions and he has a right to have them.

*Must make a correction . . .I disagree with Maclom Higgins opinion on this song, I have not read enough parodies by you Malcom to say I disagree with you in general.
