The Lyrics

MIDI (rictus: a gaping grimace) Poisonous Snakes.
You trusted snakes, they poisoned you
It mattered not to them.
I walked a road, not wise to change,
My contentment's undone.
That old pit viper made me swoon
Then I began to hum.
I thought I sang in an ancient tongue,
That's my bite from the viper's ....
....Faaaaaaangs! Owwwww, Oww, Oww!

In weakness was my pity plea,
Please shut your mouth, I plead.
I lay outside the viper's hole,
Hallucinated schemes.
And there I chant
a piper's march.
I'm cracked; perhaps he'll sing
And summon back the fire which
The bite of the pit viper....
.....briiiiiiings! Owwwww, Oww, Oww!

~snake dance instrumental~

Owwwww, Oww, Oww, Oww!

I'm pardoner and I intervene
Don't trample poor snake's power.
I taste the wine of that crimson rip
It tasted metal and sour.
The patterned wriggler lifts his head
My final song begins.
As slowly leaks the winding gore
From the bite of the viper's......
.........Faaaaangs! Owwwww, Oww, Oww!

~~~~pied piper music~~~~
My skin's gray, mourning over me,
And I began to choke.
I run to grab watering vines,
To satisfy my bones.
I'm the yellow viper's done prey
He roughly pulls the strings.
His rictus as his puppet danced
From the bite of the viper's......
.........Faaaaangs! Owwwww, Oww, Oww, Oww......!
555, and bravo, Adagio! You and me, Pat --- we're the only wackos crazy enough around here to attempt writing a parody of "In The Court of The Crimson King" !! ;-)
Well, I am DKTOS on the OS, but the writing is quite good here. I need to hear the tone of the OS to get a real feel for whether I think those "Oww" lines are as funny as they read or whether they are more towards "serious", but either way you did a nice job.
Thanks Johnny (I noticed...a whole two of us trying it....lol)
Thanks Paul (try the midi).
Having just heard this OS recently, I am very familiar with it. Great job, Adagio. Poetic and haunting, like the OS. :-)
Agrimorfee - June 26, 2006 - Report this comment
Wow! It's just as if Pete Sinfield (King Crimson's lyricist) got a snake bite and tried to put it in song! A goodnatured rip on prog rock. 555.
Final song, Lionel? No way and thanks. (BTW, where am I going? lol)
Thank you Kristof. I do like the way some words can be interwoven...that part is fun to me.
I sunk my teeth into this one! DKTOS, but I'm sure the pacing is right on, as always. 555. PS - Maybe a follow up to "Eye of the Tiger" with a similar title? ;-)
Respect! A more than eight minutes long song has got to be some sort of SOTM record (and I've d/l a version more than nine minutes parallell to the Midi), you're really not making it easy for yourself Pat.
Adagio - July 24, 2006 - Report this comment
Red Ant - July 26, 2006 - Report this comment
(SOTM) See above, and I did d/l TOS, all 9:27 of it (wow!). This maps tightly to it, as I suspected, and around the 7:05 mark there are some light cymbals that sound remarkably like a snake's rattle slowed down a bit. Great use of TOS, especially the "Owws".
Adagio - July 27, 2006 - Report this comment
I love your attention to litle details like the time, cymbals, etc. Thanks a lot, Jack! : )
(SOTM) Best pacing I've read in a while, but it's the first about an injury I've read! Which means about one injury, not repeated injuries. Nice work, Adagio!
Stuart McArthur - July 28, 2006 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Rick C nailed this with "poetic and haunting - I didn't K the OS, but the midi worked perfectly to show off your pacing, Pat - nicely done - one of your best :-) - 555
