Song Parodies -> My Bravery, Dings (Street Racing)
| Original Song Title: | "My Favorite Things" |
| Original Performer: | Julie Andrews |
| Parody Song Title: | "My Bravery, Dings (Street Racing)" |
| Parody Written by: | Fiddlegirl and Tommy Turtle |
(TT here) Believe it or not, FG came up with the concept and substantial start of a parody based on illegal street-racing. And AFAIK, her draft [1] was the *first* parody of TOS to depart from OS "list" format and turn it into a narrative/ballad. FG, you go, girl! -- TT proud to have played a "petty" part in preparing presented product.
Song is written/sung from FG's point of view (hey, she started it! :-); the character names are strictly fictional.

Gang all supposed that with fear, I’d be stricken
When Robert Pettis called me a “big chicken”
Crowned as the Ultimate Street Racing King
Dared me, my ownership papers to bring
Jamie Mulroney said, “Best use your noodle!
"Floor it around the first curve, or this dude’ll --
"-- Ease up beside you with eyes all agleam,
"Leave you with nothing but bent steel and steam…”
Spill was impressive, with movie-like crashes
Dirt in my eyes; on my nose, bloody gashes
Looked like a victim from film “Halloween”
Scaring a few of my neighbors, this scene
Flashing red lights
Siren screaming
Senses reeling…Gad!
A speed-of-light sprinter who felt like a fling
Now, inside I squeal ... like mad!
Slow drips from IV, and woozy, I’m gittin’
Pre-operation; with orderly, smitten
Gown gapes in back, catches onto bedsprings,
Rips off, revealing my most private things
Scream for attorney; resistance is futile
Sterilized tray, tools, whole kit and caboodle
Doc stitches five rows of surgical seams
Red, black, and blue go Daytonian dreams [2]
Nurse in white dress went to school back in Natchez
Comes in each day to change gauze and eye patches
Picking the splinters, the iodine stings
Piece of adhesive that stubbornly clings
Out of fog: lights
Voice in ear, rings
Wince at needle’s stab
From racing, dismembered, my limbs all in slings
Next time I shall call ... a cab!
[1] "draft" - a little pun for the race crowd. :)
[2] For those outside the US (or those outside the NASCAR belt, lol), Daytona Beach, Florida, is home to the Daytona International Speedway, which in turn [3] is the home of "the biggest and greatest race in all of NASCAR, 'The Great American Race', the Daytona 500". (804.7 km)
NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) is headquartered in Daytona Beach, as both NASCAR and the Speedway itself were founded by the late Bill France, Sr.
[3] "in turn" - OMG, puns everywhere! (It's a banked tri-oval.)

You'll probably need a cab - as what's left of the car is now owned by the winner. Well written and a good reason to stay away from these races. 555
Very clever indeed to have utilized the melody without resorting to the more conventional list of items. Kansas City has a street named after the French family and a race track that cost many people their homes and businesses for the sake of a couple of races (major traffic jams) each year. Not a big NASCAR fan, but I like your lyrics. Today's harvest has you in a VD clinic or lying on your back in pieces from a car wreck. Hope your luck improves next time.
Top flight in clever FG... and with TT as your 'pace' car(apace), how can you lose?
love the contrast between the gentle melody and the violent lyrics
Hey, good to see you guys back in the race. Painfully funny and punny, zero to 55 in 5 seconds.
I have this OS coming out tomorrow. It's a little more story than list, but I didn't know that was unique until I read this one. GMTA :-)
Timmy1000: Didn't "win" much, did he? :-) ... thanks for v/c!
Patrick: Don't worry, FG gets sooo lucky tomorrow! (if we can finish her off -- I mean, finish it off -- tonight). Not a big NASCAR fan myself, but did race go-karts *some* years ago. Would always rather participate than watch others having all the fun (in everything, nudge wink). Thanks for v/c.
TJC: "pace' car(apace)!!! Multi-layered punion from the Neomagician! ... ROFL, and thanks as always for über-clever pun-ditry!
alvin: interesting observation! -- hadn't even thought of that. "Julie Andrews, Street Racer". now *there's* a movie and a video game! (lol) thanks alvin.
blackjack21: Didn't actually *read* all 150+ in the archives, but scanned the titles very quickly. Hope someone will correct me if mistaken.... yep, GMTA, and so do weird ones :) ... thanks for v/c, and lookin' forward to your fave aces and tens tomorrow /(or surprise me!)

This was a very well-written parody... But I have a question off topic, what does the child of a Turtle and a human look like? Anyways, 5s to my favorite Turtle and his special friend. =]
Silver Power: Rent the hilarious 1965 low-budget Japanese horror flic, "Gamera The Invincible" , and see! ... There's more info on it, and a link to it, in my own bio,

Nice to see you again FG and TT!! That must have been some street race! Yep, some people end up in the hospital, severely injured during street racing, not to mention those "Chicken Races", where two guys have to run to the edge of the cliff and jump off the car before plummeting off the cliff. Driven to 555 mph on this one, not to mention getting sideswiped!
Christie Marie M: Yep, pretty insane -- glad you enjoyed! Thanks for v/c!
