The Lyrics

I got the Pirates of Penzance CD to listen to this ( 1968 recording ). Considering this was written close/over 100 years ago by W.S. Gilbert, it is still brilliant today. Anyways, this is about C. Everett Koop, U.S. Surgeon General from 1981-1989. The man I remember most from the 80s ( besides Reagan ). So a dedication to him. Note: This is as factual as I could make it.
C. Everett Koop :
I was the very model of a U.S. Surgeon General,
I've information credible, medical, and logical,
I was the man of Reagan's, and my message not political,
From smoking on to drug abuse, my findings scientifical,
I understand the questions, both the simple and the radical,
Partial-birth abortions I'm clashing with a lot of views,
With many shocking facts about the state of America's youth

All:
With many shocking facts about the state of America's youth
With many shocking facts about the state of America's youth
With many shocking facts about the state of America's youth

C. Everett Koop :
American doctor, educator, public health activist
I was the govenmental means for Public Service Announcements:
In short, in matters credible, medical and logical,
I was the very model of a U.S. Surgeon General

All:
In short, in matters credible, medical and logical,
He was the very model of a U.S. Surgeon General

C. Everett Koop:
I put warnings on the cigarettes, low fetal weight and birth defects
As they may cause emphesema, lots of unwanted side effects.
"The call for euthanasia surfaces in our society,
As it is doing now under the guise of death with dignity";
I can tell Kevorkian's patient's medical atrocites,
I know the quacking doctors by their lack of Oath of Hippocrates.
They can pull the feeding tube when the patient is brain dead of course,
I'll chuckle off the critics their eternal nonsense heard before.

All:
He'll chuckle off the critics their eternal nonsense heard before.
He'll chuckle off the critics their eternal nonsense heard before.
He'll chuckle off the critics their eternal nonsense heard before.

Me:
That you would make a P.S.A not idiotic to inform,
Could tell you ev'ry detail of C. Everett Koop's uniform:
In short, in matters credible, medical and logical,
He was the very model of a U.S. Surgeon General

All:
In short, in matters credible, medical and logical,
He was the very model of a U.S. Surgeon General

C. Everett Koop:
In fact, I know just what is meant by " endorphin " and " insulin",
And if you don't heed my words you can notify the next of kin,
When such affairs as morbid obesity I don't aim to please,
And do I know precisely what is meant by " responsibility ? ",
When I had learned what progress has been made in modern surgey,
Well I know more of practice than a master of anatomy--
In short when I'm communicating a fundamental strategy,
There'll never be a Surgeon General that is as good as me

All:
There'll never be a Surgeon General that is as good as me
There'll never be a Surgeon General that is as good as me
There'll never be a Surgeon General that is as good as me

C. Everett Koop:
Graduated Dartmouth college, M.D. Cornell University,
Has only been my life from the beginning of eternity,
But still, in matters credible, medical and logical,
I was the very model of a U.S. Surgeon General

All:
But still, in matters credible, medical and logical,
He was the very model of a U.S. Surgeon General
PS- Even if you didn't agree with his views I have to admire a man who was as outspoken as he was on reasonable medical advice. PSS- Do you know who is the Surgeon General now?

Even though I have never heard this song before, I can still vote. How? Simple. Remember the old cartoon "Animaniacs?" I have a CD of their crazy songs and one of the songs they sing is called "I Am The Very Model of a Cartoon Individual" and I'm able to sing the song exactly to this parody! Cool, huh?

Great job. This guy was a shining light in an otherwise murky and crooked administration.

Don't what? I do not remember a PSS addressed to you specifically. Sorry.

DUH!! MY PSS in the bottom section. I only started putting them there recently. I don't either and I would hazard a guess that maybe 1-2% of Americans over 21 do.

The comment above is to the tune of "Alley-Oop." I was just being silly. No harm was intended.

None taken. I have never heard that song and thought that you were parodying a " Coo-Coo" clock, indicating to me that you thought Koop was Cooky ( which some probably believe anway but he still will probably be the only Surgeon General ever remembered ).

PS- That quoted line in the parody actually came from Koop himself, only word missing was " periodically ".
