The Lyrics

This comes from a short story I wrote nearly thirty years ago - or at least, the title does. The rest is partly from my own life (as in 'worse would be like this!') and the balance from history. The two seem to coincide more than a little, at least in some ways.
In the black room, wrought with nightmares, desolation,
Deep underground, wreathed with tunnels, bored guarding,
Yellow-striped floors, flashing lasers, mirrored eyeshades,
Deep secrecy, deep-layered lies, mirrored curses.

Labor in this place, where the sun never shines,
Fear on my face, where the puppets dangle themselves.

We know, what these rules mean, 'tis our ration,
Only the clock, rules all our time, slave laborers,
Marched from bed, unto labor, then the showers,
Imported filth, from outer minds, into our souls.

Wait here for the line, until our brains are brought back,
Buried in time, where the puppets dangle themselves.

So-called party, social trapping, a recruitment,
Drugged the drink, doped the food, plucked the harvest,
Armored tigers, tall watch-towers, indoctrination,
Slave laborers, blurred workings, nine grams of lead.

Lie here in this earth, enemy of the state,
Defined unto death, where the puppets dangle themselves.

Haven't seen you around the site for a while. A true master of shocking imagery. Hope to get back here eventually myself. Your poetry captures the feel of the growing police state that threatens to engulf us all. Puppets dangling themselves is a disturbing vision. Nine grams of lead awaits those who choose to think for themselves.

Nicely describes the average corporation.
