The Lyrics

The first three stanzas were written by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt to open their January 1969 Broadway musical "Celebration", a fantasy built around pagan rites for the New Year. They embody the fears of earlier people who had no control over Nature. I have updated these verses below to reflect the views of someone (not necessarily me) who rejects the man-made global-warming consensus 40 years later.
Some people say that today is the day
When the wind will rise and blow the world away.
And it may be so; I just don't know.
All I know is: up until we have to go,
I want to celebrate; I want to make a celebration.
I want to celebrate; I want to savor each sensation.
See the sunlight rise, feel it touch the sky.
I want to stay alive until the day I die.
I want to celebrate ... ev'ry day.

Some people say that tonight is the night
When the bird will fly and eat away the light.
And it may be so; I just don't know.
All I know is: up until we have to go,
I want to celebrate; make a celebration.
I want to celebrate; savor each sensation.
Feel the blazing fire, bring a cup of wine.
I want to light the torch and teach the sun to shine.
I want to celebrate ... ev'ry day.

Some people say that today is the day
When the cold will come and never go away.
When the bird will fly, the wind will blow.
But something deep inside me says, it can't be so.
I want to celebrate; make a celebration.
I want to celebrate; savor each sensation.
Something deep inside says, beneath the snow,
There's a tiny seed, and it's gonna grow.
I want to celebrate ... ev'ry day ...
ev'ry day ... ev'ry day ... ev'ry day.
C-E-L-E-B-R-A-T-I-O-N
Celebration!

Some leaders say that to save Earth some day,
Let the windmills rise, be blown and whirl away.
But wind may be slow; I trust they know.
All I know is: up until we cease to grow,
I want to escalate; I want a stake in escalation.
I want to escalate; I want to waive more regulation.
When the oceans rise, we'll move toward the sky.
I want to play and thrive, and ev'ry day I'll cry:
I want to escalate ... ev'ry way.

Some seer may say if we brighten the night,
Then the grid will fry, lose heat, A/C and light.
And that may be show; I just won't slow.
All I know is: up until we start to glow,
I want to excavate nuclear radiation.
I want to excavate; stave off declination.
Build amazing spires, sing an upward line.
I want to light a torch to reach where sun won't shine.*
I want to excavate ... ev'ry way.

Some people say we must pay to delay
When the greenhouse comes and never goes away,
When the grid will fry, the windmills slow.
But something deep inside the Earth we can't forgo.
I want to penetrate; take oil with elation.
I want to penetrate cave or seaboard station.
In the Arctic wide, just beneath the snow,
There's a tiny bleed, and it's gonna grow.
I want to penetrate ... ev'ry way ...
ev'ry way ... ev'ry way ... ev'ry way.
P-E-N-E-T-R-A-T-I-O-N
Penetration!

Obscure, but considering the difficulty of the rhyme and the pace, good job, folks.
