Original Song Title:

"Howdy Doody Time"

Original Performer:

Buffalo Bob Smith

Parody Song Title:

"Daylight Saving Time"

Parody Written by:

Barry J. Mitchel

The Lyrics

Daylight Saving Time resumes at 2 AM on Sunday morning, courtesy of Congress's moving the dates and requiring software patches to computers with automatic-update features. Our legislators' motive was to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. Unlike Congress, which operates on a late schedule each day, most working Americans must awaken in the dark, so this act was one more example of Congress being out-of-touch. CHFUDNKTOS.
It's Daylight Saving Time
To save our planet's clime.
'Fore dusk, less carbon spew
Into clear sky of blue.

When early-rousing, cheer;
Make darkness disappear
With artificial glows
Until dawn shows!
This is one real example of a zero-sum game. It is an old "gift" that keeps on giving every year. Once again, Arizona (MST all year) is smarter than D.C.

BJM - Glad to see you're on Doody today. Thanks for the parody, and here's a few random Howdy Doody facts. 1. Clarabell The Clown was played by Bob Keeshan, later famous as Captain Kangaroo. 2. Phineas T. Bluster and Flubb A. Dubb were played by the most unjustly forgotten Dayton Allen (the "Whyyyyyyyy Not!" man from Steve Allen's Tonight Show). 3. Chief Thunderthud's exclamation "Cowabunga!" has become one of Bart Simpson's catchphrases. 4. The theme song It's Howdy Doody Time is to the tune of "Ta Ra Ra Boom Dee Ay". Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane...and remember, set your watch up one hour! ;D

Short, but a great sub...and DST is certainly deserving of spoofs and gripes

OMR: Thanks; I would fear playing Trivial Pursuits against you! Join my team?
Our house has 7 clock-radios, 4 bird-clocks, a wall oven and 2 microwaves. It takes that whole hour to reset them!
AFW: Thanks. Brevity is the soul of wit. "True wit is Nature to advantage dess'd: what oft was said but ne'er so well exrpress'd." -- Wm. S.
DCIQ: Thanks & LOL! My son moved to Tucson; he's smarter than I.

Arizona, home of the old Navajo weaver who cut one end off of his blanket and sewed it to the other end to make it longer. Check out my "Daylight Savings Time" parody to Billy Joel's "Piano Man".

Ben Franklin suggested DST over 200 years ago. I've been to the cemetary in Philly where he is buried. How about digging him up and giving him a good old-fashioned Hawaiian Punch?

Mark: AM or PM? AC or DC? I'll follow your suggestion.
Patrick: Your portrait of a native Arizonan is so un-PC! Today they're smart.
DSSS: Ben never imagined that Congress would stretch DST to 8+ months.
