Song Parodies -> "Anagram"

Original Song Title:

"Barbara Ann"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Beach Boys

Parody Song Title:

"Anagram"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

A an-, an-, an-, an-, anagram
A an-, an-, an-, an-, anagram
Those anagrams—I’m enam-
(-nam-, -nam-, -nam-, -nam-, -nam-, enam-)
ored of them, and on them I’m homin’
They are so appealing: anagrams
A an-, an-, an-, an-, anagram

This ain’t “a man” followed by “a plan,”
Next comes “a can-al” and that’s followed by “Pan-
ama”—I pant for anagrams
Pant, pant pant for anagrams
I don’t wanna go palindromin’
For these I’ve a feeling:
Anagrams
A an-, an-, an-, an-, anagrams

A an-, an-, an-, an-, anagram
A an-, an-, an-, an-, anagram
Those anagrams—I’m enam-
(-nam-, -nam-, -nam-, -nam-, -nam-, enam-)
ored of them, and on them I’m homin’
They are without peering: anagrams
A an-, an-, an-, an-, anagram

Try Debby Lou
Rearrange two
Letters—ensues
What a Serta dude might do
An anagram. . .
Bed-building man
You get those two letters a-roamin’:
“Bed by Lou”’s appearing. . .
Anagram

Anagrams. . . .

Oh, no, John, you blew it. "A man, a plan, a canal, Panama" -- or any other word or sentence that reads the same forwards and backwards -- isn't an anagram, it's a palindrome. An anagram is a rearrangement of a word or series of words to form another, more interesting (or perhaps more telling) word or series of words. For example, "Michael Pacholek" reminds me of my father's 1966 Chevy, which was run-down by the time I was old enough to ride in it: "Impala Check Hole." And "John A. Barry" sounds like boxing advice: "Jab Harry On."

Whatever, thought it was cute.

Michael, the lyrics explain that I don't want no Palindromin', as in "A man. . ."

Oh... I guess that puts me back in your Malaprop song. (Hangs head in shame)
