The Lyrics

Battle between the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Sweden on Sept 27, 1605. The Swedish king Carol IX Sudermanski laid siege to the city of Riga on 23 September with an army of 14,000 men. The city controlled the trade routes of the region and was the base of provision for the forces of the Lithuanian Hetman, Carol Chodkiewicza. Conquest of this city would mean the gain of a major Baltic harbor and a corresponding reduction of power of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Due east the Swedes did go
To give Riga's city a blow,
Through Lithuanians they'd mow.
Go, Carol IX, go!

They plan to win the day,
But soon as they get into the fray,
Hussars start to cut them in two,
Now Carol IX's blue.

Break apart,
His flanks; men start to die,
And soon, on the ground 6000 lie,
Not, Carol IX, fine.

He's lying with the wounded men,
He'll never come to Riga again.
After the slaughter, he's back to Stockholm gone,
Go Carol IX, go!

Hey, thanks for the history lesson! Now, are we supposed to hear a train and some barnyard animals at the end of the song?

I can't believe with all your parody writing, that you get a chance to bone up on European history, JAB - and so what were the Elizabethan monks doing at this point in time? - 555
