The Lyrics

TOS shares the name of a character on the TV show Fantasy Island, whose signature line I have included. An example of a fantasy for myself appears in the last verse. Just like David Lee Roth's "Uncle Danny", there were people in my family who were in the coal industry.
Tattoo, Tattoo

You can travel to the island
When you arrive, lose your cares
They got hula girls, and they tell them to smile
And they greet you when you're there

He's the lookout man
Screaming "here come de plane!"
Over mountains he can see, he tells Mr. Roarke
Boss, there they come!

Have your island fantasy
Live out your dreams but you must
First get past the man who's named Tattoo
Tattoo, Tattoo

(Tattoo, Tattoo)
We've got our island magic
(Tattoo, Tattoo)
It's gonna be fantastic

Best believe the truth will hurt you
Best deceive these adventures will follow one of your false pursuits

Here's a question from me to you
Can all the crazy stuff you've never done somehow all come true?
Try out something new, expand your mind
If you come here you won't know, what you'll lose or what you'll find

Have your island fantasy
Live out your dreams but you must
First get past the man who's named Tattoo
Tattoo, Tattoo

Woo!
(Tattoo, Tattoo)
It's our island magic
(Tattoo, Tattoo)
The time you'll have will be fantastic
(Tattoo, Tattoo)
Boss, here come de plane
(Tattoo, Tattoo)
Hey Boss, here come de plane!
Yeah, yeah, yeah.....

[guitar solo]

Daddy's daddy was a breaker boy
He worked for a coal mine, had no time for toys
I would love to see how people lived in his time in the past
But if I tried their kind of work, don't know if I could last

Everybody!
Have your island fantasy
Live out your dreams but you must
First get past the man who's named Tattoo
Tattoo, Tattoo
Tattoo, Tattoo!

(Tattoo, Tattoo)
Here's our island magic
(Tattoo, Tattoo)
The time you'll have will be fantastic
(Tattoo, Tattoo)
Hey Boss, here come de plane
(Tattoo, Tattoo)
Hey Boss, here come de plane
(Tattoo, Tattoo)
Boss, here come de plane
(Tattoo, Tattoo)
He's here, yes he is
(Tattoo, Tattoo)
Fantasy, just for you!
(Tattoo, Tattoo)
Whoa!
"Breaking" is an operation to separate slate from coal after the coal has been removed from the ground, and is done on the surface. Hence, grandpa worked "for" a coal mine, not "in" one. During his time, the mines employed children as young as 8 in their breakers, hence the term "breaker boy".

555!!! Too bad he killed himself in real-life. I still remember and have the politically-incorrect Callahan cartoon of him saying "Da Pain! Da Pain! and blowing his brains out! If you never heard of Callahan, he is way out there past "The Far Side", "Quigmans", "Bizarro", etc...

Thanks, Rob. I knew that Valachaise killed himself, but I didn't know about Callahan.
