The Lyrics

Botched communication can come in many forms, as this Tumblr post can attest to...
Words in text lack many subtle foibles
Of one's speech, could miss inflections, turn it all to babble
So I guess I understand the desire
To use some tricks when formattin's not on offer
But we don't have consensus on what means what, won't make the call
That you're bein' an asshole now until I know if it was meant at all

Why do you use inverted commas (ah-ah-ah)?
Don't want unintended drama (yikes) (ha-ah-ah)
Make it clear to me, you gotta (ha-ah-ah)
Explain all those inverted commas (ah-ah-ah)

Do you mean those marks to demarcate sarcasm?
I've seen that all the time, not hard to fathom
You could be a douche but you could say
That you only mean to emphasise your gladness
That's quite a massive diff'rence, hence why I cannot make the call
That you're bein' a knobhead now until I know the reason for it all

Why do you use inverted commas (ah-ah-ah)?
Did you mean to start some drama (why) (ha-ah-ah)?
Or just make a point? You gotta (ha-ah-ah)
Explain those damn inverted commas (ah-ah-ah)

Don't know you that well, who you are
So why you put down quotation marks
Around the words that you've been writin' (ha-ah-ah)
Is not as obvious as your gif is implyin'

Why do you use inverted commas (ah-ah-ah)?
Cut the stupid all-caps drama (shite) (ha-ah-ah)
If you hate that too, you gotta (ha-ah-ah)
Say why you use inverted commas (ah-ah-ah)
Why do you use inverted commas (ah-ah-ah)?
It's unnecessary drama (shite) (ha-ah-ah)
Don't use more, come on, just wanna (ha-ah-ah)
Know why you use inverted commas (ah-ah-ah)

Apparently the liner notes of the album this song is from credits the bridge of this song as an interpolation of Mtume's "Juicy Fruit", even though given the shout-out on the chorus it's clearly meant to be a nod to Biggie's "Juicy". Weird.
