The Lyrics

Part of my "Into Pieces" self-challenge. In which I discuss my...mixed feelings on the recent bizarre hit "Broccoli" (and trying to not completely rip off Rap Critic in the process).
I'm not real sure what to make of this so-o-ong, ayy, ayy
Cause it's o-o-odd, just don't get it, hey

First the guest rapper starts his verse, which I don't like
That seems kinda backwards from what you normally would find
I did expect zero energy
Because lots of rappers now are on Nyquil, it seems
Doesn't really mesh well with the shiny, fun beat
Then he goes and messes up the basic rhyme pattern
Have to replicate it cause I am kinda pedantic
And he does it once more, this dude is a giant joke
Has a decent flow, but that's the bare basics, yo
The way this dude drones out of my car radio (ugh)
Kinda dangerous, you need to stay awake
When you're real busy drivin', this song shouldn't play
Still it jolts my brain when the rhyme scheme's once more broken
You can't use an internal rhyme then fail the end one, no
Plus his name's another "Lil", don't we have enough of those?
Doesn't even stay on topic, to me, that's a huge no-no
And because he starts the song (well, not includin' the intro)
It causes confusion what it's all 'bout, you know
And the repetition of the one line just blows
Out of lyrics, were you? Absolute joke

Then the chorus with recorder tune's an oddity (god damn)
Wanna write the song off as a novelty (god damn)
Contrast with the guest verse jars quite audibly (god damn)
From brag-rappin' to a silly novelty (god damn)
Yet the happy beat goes by so breezily (god damn)
The lead rapper squawks his lines so gleefully (god damn)
What I thought was total tripe is seemingly (god damn)
Not absolute bullshit, inconceivably (hey, hey)

I plain don't know what this one part is ca-a-alled, ayy, ayy (I'm confused)
What the ba-a-alls (what is it?) is this odd shit (so confused)? Hey
Cause the lead guy builds up to a great big long squa-a-awk, ayy, ayy (real confused)
It's friggin' o-odd, ayy (scratch my head), no, I don't get it, ayy (it's kinda funny, though)

Now this D.R.A.M. guy is a weirdo, I mean that in a good way, though
Sounds so happy in a way so infectious, my grin won't fade, no
So laid-back in ev'ry phrase, no dreary mumbles like his lame bro
If the song started this way then it would rate high on my scale, man
I'm a big fan of rap songs that deviate from all of the typical
Rap clichés like bling 'n' bitches, guns 'n' Hummers
So I kinda like this song for goin' into territ'ry not much seen
By most dudes rappin', that's what gets respected
When D.R.A.M. talks about respectin' himself, eatin' random food or
Wantin' to catch up with all the Sega Genesis games
I can't help but love it, a dopey smile on my face
But then there's still a fair amount of money braggin', that's lame
So I'm still conflicted 'bout how I should be feelin'
Happy cause of the nice beat? Mad cause lyrics vary?
Blame that on the dreary moron Lil Yachty?
Who cares, ain't important? Yeah, that works for me (ayy, ayy)

I can't work out what I think 'bout this song's quality (quality)
Easy to write it off as a novelty (dumb cheese, dumb cheese)
I mean, for crap's sake, the thing's called "Broccoli" (yes, "Broccoli")
That just screams to me that it's a novelty (dumb cheese, dumb chee-ee-eese)
More enjoyable than "Panda" easily (so bland and dull)
Makes a lot more sense than "Black Beatles", you see (its point is null)
Its concepts and themes still sit unevenly (oh yeah, oh yeah)
But at happy fun, it does that decently (yeah, yeah-eah)

Ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy, yeah, yeah-eah
Ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy, it's a six

The only thing about this song that I didn't get was Lil Yachty invoking the friggin' Columbine shootings without even being part of a metaphor. Dude...no.
