Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

On the 1st day of Christmas my babushka gave to me,
Mir.

On the 2nd day of Christmas my babushka gave to me
two Suyoz pods to leave Mir

On the 3rd day of Christmas my babushka gave to me
3 kegs of vodka on the two Suyoz pods to leave Mir

On the 4th day of Christmas my babushka gave to me
4 Cosmonauts drinking 3 kegs of vodka on the two Suyoz pods to leave Mir

On the 5th day of Christmas my babushka gave to me
a 5-month mission
For the 4 Cosmonauts drinking 3 kegs of vodka on the two Suyoz pods to leave Mir

On the 6th day of Christmas my babushka gave to me
6 busted solar panels which ruined the 5 month mission
For the 4 Cosmonauts drinking 3 kegs of vodka on the two Suyoz pods to leave Mir

On the 7th day of Christmas my babushka gave to me
7 burning oxygen tanks, 6 busted solar panels which ruined the 5-month mission
For the 4 Cosmonauts drinking 3 kegs of vodka on the two Suyoz pods to leave Mir

On the 8th day of Christmas my babushka gave to me
8 shorted wires which ignited the 7 burning oxygen tanks and the 6 busted solar panels which ruined the 5-month mission
For the 4 Cosmonauts drinking 3 kegs of vodka on the two Suyoz pods to leave Mir

On the 9th day of Christmas my babushka gave to me
9 American astronauts to repair the 8 shorted wires which ignited the 7 burning oxygen tanks and the 6 busted solar panels which ruined the 5-month mission
For the 4 Cosmonauts drinking 3 kegs of vodka on the two Suyoz pods to leave Mir

On the 10th day of Christmas my babushka gave to me
10 news stories about the 9 American astronauts repairing the 8 shorted wires which ignited the 7 burning oxygen tanks and the 6 busted solar panels which ruined the 5-month mission
For the 4 Cosmonauts drinking 3 kegs of vodka on the two Suyoz pods to leave Mir

On the 11th day of Christmas my babushka gave to me
11 nosy reporters doing 10 news stories about the 9 American astronauts repairing the 8 shorted wires which ignited the 7 burning oxygen tanks and the 6 busted solar panels which ruined the 5-month mission
For the 4 Cosmonauts drinking 3 kegs of vodka on the two Suyoz pods to leave Mir

On the 12th day of Christmas my babushka gave to me
12 stupid questions from the 11 nosy reporters doing 10 news stories about the 9 American astronauts repairing the 8 shorted wires which ignited the 7 burning oxygen tanks and the 6 busted solar panels which ruined the 5-month mission
For the 4 Cosmonauts drinking 3 kegs of vodka on the two Suyoz pods to leave Mir

Neat idea, but were you trying to keep in pace with the original song?

Syncronos: "Neat idea, but were you trying to keep in pace with the original song?" ########### No, I was just trying to be funny. Think of it as a 12-days parody which gets a heavy dose of "The House That Jack Built." With most of my parodies I try to mimick the original, but not this one. Here I just let loose. My idea is to sound like a Russian (accent included) who actually has had too much vodka when I sing it. Then go on to a more "standard" parody. Thanks for your input -- one reason I submitted my whole slate of parodies was so I could see which ones get the best public reaction and which ones need more work. Michael "Song Butcher" McVey

How about spoofing the McKenzie Brothers' (SCTV) version of this song? It could become 'a Mir in a tree'.

I don't get the bubushka part? Bubushka is a scaft that is worn over the head by Russian women.

"Babushka" is the Russian equivalent of "honey" or "dear." MM

Clever parody. I found this doing a search for the term "bubushka" to find out if I was spelling the word correctly for the little scarfs I used to wear long ago. I believe the term "babushka" is supposed to be a grandmother, and is also used for a certain type of doll, or dolls in general - and like many words and phrases - has grown into a general term of endearment. But, I may be wrong.

Lousy pacing, funny choice of theme cancel each other out IMO: 1-5-3.

The pacing for this particular one was not meant to match the original. I actually got the idea from another parody, "on the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me, beer." But surely you could have averaged the 1 and 5 and given at least a 3 for overall? This parody would have been a riot had it been on the radio back in '97 when Mir was on its last leg. -- MM
