The Lyrics

I imagine this could be sung to parents by a toddler, if (s)he had my vocabulary, voice and vision of one's potential. I dedicate it to my two grandsons, who will turn 6 soon (4 days before Mothers Day and 4 days after Fathers Day). My church's choir director had scheduled TOS for Fathers Day, and I altered the lyrics to fit that occasion (here, not in church).
When I am grown and out of school, know freedom,
Then I'll become and I'll start earning keep;
But I am still a waif needing your guidance,
And so I humbly sit till I can leap.

Do lift me up, so I can drink from fountains.
Do lift me up, then walk; once more I see
Over throngs, when I am on your shoulders.
Do gift me zippered shorts; then I can pee.

Do raise me up into a land that's bounteous.
Do raise me up to walk, but not to flee.
I'll grow stronger when I'm one year older.
Do raise me up 'twixt shores where I am free.

There is such strife in life about my hunger,
Ingesting part, eat no imperfect treat.
But when it's yummy, I am filled with wonder;
Sometimes I think I simply yearn for sweet.

Do raise me up to fly o'er grandest mountains.
Do raise me up to balk at storms on sea.
I am strong on my ancestors' shoulders;
I'll raise my cup to mortals I sha'n't see.

Do raise me up to understand Earth's bounty.
Do raise me up to talk of warming seas;
'Twas not long ago that they were colder.
Do raise me up to forests high with trees.

Do raise me up, new doors to find their keys.
To all parents who have read this far, I wish Happy Mothers Day and Fathers Day.

I love it! I can't compare it to the original because I don't know the original (guess there are lots of gaps in my culture). But this is excellent.
