Parody Song Title:

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Thank you for the lyrics: Joe Raposo (“Bein’ Green”), Paul Williams (who I’ve met!) (“The Rainbow Connection”) and Sam Pottle and the immortal Jim Henson (The Muppet Show theme).

Why this? Quoting somebody named Claude Prez: “In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the challenge is to parody any song by punk-pop legends Green Day, and make it about something green. Like Kermit the Frog….” That’s all it took.

Also: I try not to be obsessive-compulsive about “pacing,” but I was in this case, so I invite you to scrutinize the meter by listening along with Green Day’s original.

Also also: This isn’t about DJT. I limited myself to one Trump joke. I promise not to insert him into everything I write. But for context: It’s mid-March 2018. Plus I went to his rally in Pittsburgh last weekend. Plus I occasionally read the news. So hey.
(Hi! Ho!)

Hear the sound of the banjo strings
From a log in a swamp near Silver Springs
I sing
And inspiration fills the screen

My connections are like rain-bows
And the other side that no one knows
Which blows
The lovers and dreamers, also me

It’s not that easy being unlike sparkly things
It’s not that easy blending in
With the leaves
Or being green!

Had to flat-foot it out of there
Get on the road with one self-conscious bear
I swear
His jokes won’t make it anywhere

Found a slum on Sesame Street
Took a job on the Muppet News Flash beat
T.V.!
My own talk show would be super sweet!

It’s not that easy when your monsters are uptight
It’s not that easy when you were
Black and white
Try being green!

(Sesame Street was brought to you today by the color GREEN and the measure of time DAY.)

It’s time we should play the theme music
It is time we should LIGHT! THE! LIGHTS!
It is time to meet the Muppets
Here on the Muppet SHOW! TO! NIGHT!
It’s time we should put on makeup
And it is time to DRESS! UP! RIGHT!
And it is time to raise the curtain
Here on the Muppet…
AN! I! MAL!

Why don’t…
Why don’t you get things started, Pig?!

It’s not that easy riding bikes with flippered feet
It’s not that easy with a hand
Up your seat!
Just ask Melania if you think this view’s just mine:
It’s not that easy hooking up
With a swine!

It’s not that easy being green!

I don’t know what’s better the fact that this reunion pulls incredible authors out of retirement OR the fact that I get to read all of their incredible parodies. This reminds me of one of my favorites by you “Superfrog: It’s not easy to be green” BUT a much different take on it. Playing with the original song and The Muppet Show theme song. So great! Thanks for coming!

There should also be a shout-out for Steve Whitmire, say what you will about him, but he gamely took over Kermit for Henson for over 20 years in a position most would not want to touch with a ten-foot pole. You made me LOL in my cubicle when I should be working, Spaff.com, thanks a lot!

Well, there’s the script for the Kermit biopic right there, done and dusted Spaff, with the theme song thrown in for good measure. What a hard road he hoed to get to the top. And with nothing to show really but an adoring swine. Wouldn’t want that description getting back to her mate. Great stuff as always 555

An interspecies romp.

I am obsessive-compulsive about fitting pacing, and this fits. Best Spaff parody I've seen in years, and one of the better parodies I've seen period.

Impeccable artistry!! The words and images flow. You are very in tune with kermit and his frustrations. All of them!!

I liked the way that this told the progressive story, start to finish. Add to that, the slight twist at the end gave a me a chuckle as well :)

A fitting tribute to the greatest entertainer of our age. A magnificent mashup of his career highlights. Bravo. 555

So much to process - you've met Paul Williams? Cool! You went to a Trump rally? Why? You occasionally read the news? WHY??? (Also, how can you tell?) Anyway, great stuff of course. Loved how the theme song fit right there into the bridge especially - and ditto to what Kristof just said

Thank you all! I promise to reciprocate. I’m looking forward to reading the stuff you wrote for this greenest of green days.

Has Amiright ever been swamped by this much talent and good stuff on one single day before? I'd say not even back in the good old days!

Oh, and I love that you have to have your *mom* comment on your stuff - Sad!

You’re just jealous.

Truth be told, I have the best mom ever. Genetically speaking, she wrote half of this.

Hell yeah I'm jealous - haha my mom sucks

I'm trying to figure out if you were really in the Pittsburgh area, there's a resort called Seven Springs which could have been Silver Springs. Was that really Spaff.Mom? The self-conscious bear hit home for me. That was a great verse, and Mmy wife says I'm the reincarnation of Fozzy.

Fantastic as usual, Spaff---cue the Moneyshot Cosmonauts!

Let’s admit it: We all want to be Kermits, but the truth is we’re Fozzies.

In the off-chance that you read this comment AND that you left a comment on this parody a couple weeks ago, yay! Thank you for your comment! It is great fun to hear from y'all again. To answer Jeff's question: I looked into Kermit's origin story; there's some consensus that his swamp is Okefenokee; there's apparently a Silver Springs near there; I'm a geek. And, yes, I really was in Pittsburgh and really did go to a Trump rally. Because, come on, while we all know what a dumpster fire is, how often to we actually get to *see* one? And, yes, Claude, I met Paul Williams at a meet-and-greet after a concert a few years ago. He signed my Muppet Movie soundtrack album with "Life's like a movie - write your own ending." I cherish it.
Claude Prez - March 30, 2018 - Report this comment
Well, in the interest of reviving the old notion that we share the same brain, I simply have to mention that I too have the Muppet Movie soundtrack album (one of only about 50 I saved when I finally purged my vinyl) - only mine doesn't have a cool and inspiring Paul Williams quote, so I may have to write "Life's like a movie - better with popcorn" on it. Anyway, sounds like you go to a lot of shows, so if you find yourself at a Richard Cheese show in Vegas this summer look for me! I'll be the guy with the morified wife, singing along at the top of my lungs
