The Lyrics

I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon of "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" interpretations. This is something I would've liked to see, especially right before Halloween!
There is a lonely lake
The Chippewa call it Gitchee Gumee
Don't give up its dead
In dark November skies, and there was a wreck
There was a big freighter
Called it the pride of America
Was bigger than most, and it left for Cleveland
But there was a wreck
There was a wreck, there was a wreck
There was a wreck, there was a

(Chorus)
Their shadows were all that survived the sinking
Gales of November sinking the Fitzgerald
Sometimes I wish the captain'd kept the lights on
Too bad he was too dumb

Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no
Oh no, oh no, oh no

Where is the love of God
When the minutes turn into hours?
Would they have made the Whitefish Bay if they'd gone 15 more*?
They might have capsized
Or have split up, and in Detroit they prayed
Checked their vital signs, but 29 still died
'Cause there was a wreck
There was a wreck, there was a wreck
There was a wreck, there was a

(Chorus)

Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no
Oh no, oh no, there was a wreck, there was a

(Guitar solo)

There was a big freighter
Called it the pride of America
Was bigger than most, and it left for Cleveland
But there was a

(Chorus)
*15 more miles, by the way.

It wouldn't be an official "TWOTEF" parody if I didn't at least comment. November 10 certainly wasn't a "Holiday" for them, and they won't wake up when November ends. But anyone who doesn't give this parody a five is an idiot -- American or otherwise.

Not really familiar with the original, but the story is certainly there. A never ending inspiration.
