The Lyrics

Believe it or not, this is probably the first song I've done with very little intention of recording, largely because I have another idea for it. . .but this one fits the theme for a contest that I am in, and I will let them decide (based on how it performs) if it's the one I should record for this song . . .in the mean time check out the recordings at badave.com
Dance

Game

Hear the beat pounding, crowd's insane
Gather round as I take on my friend, Wayne
In pain, I'm sweating and my power's drained

Stepping up, fallin' to my knees
Was to drunk to keep up with Matsuri*
Indeed, I just lost fifty pounds today

I felt like dying after my first twenty tries
Steps aren't forgiving as I try to survive
in D.D.R.

Pick a song, it was rated nine**
Until midway I thought I'd be just fine
I tried, but slipped and fell on my behind

I get up and I try again
I'm still dazed as I dropped out *** near the end
I gaged, my lunch could not survive the pain

I set to prove that this game's ok for fat guys
Turns out I'm hooked now on this game for all time
It's DDR

Play!

Dance-More. . .

(Spoken)
The Regional Champion from Hiroshima has the floor
(Shouted)
Hail now to the lord of the dance man
Step away, 'cause your money's spent
Worn to bones from just eighteen hours
Give it up now 'cause your match is met
Dang! Dang! You are passing out man
You better stop or you'll break your knees
You look so tired, should retire
and leave this stepping game to me

(Returning to Normal)
Just 'Cause

Just 'Cause

Because I love this game

My legs are failing and I'm dying from each try
I will keep playing and hope that I survive

I'm breathing heavy and my legs just want to cry
I will keep playing every day and each night
This is my love for DDR
*Matsuri refers to Matsuri Japan, a rather difficult song from DDR
**Nine refers to the difficulty of the song in DDR (9 is very difficult)
***Dropped Out is a disguised pun referring to the DDR song "Drop Out"
DDR is a common abbreviation for the hit games series Dance Dance Revolution

"Hail now to the lord of the dance man" made me choke on my coffee. I had to send a link to this page to my kid, who loves DDR. 555

My legs hurt in sympathy pains my friend. :-)

Well.... It's not "The Sims" or "Roller Coaster Tycoon", but you did his on Heavy and got an AAA.

Thanks everyone. After reading this parody again (not so tired) I've changed my mind. . ."Ms Scarlet's Way" would NOT have measured up to this, and the performance turned out awesome, it's recorded, should post with tomorrow's updates. . .DDR has been recorded!
Red Ant - November 14, 2007 - Report this comment
Don't let Dave's modesty fool you: he is a DDR maniac. I watched this guy dance at Busch Gardens in Tampa, and he could be a park attraction if he wanted to: half the people in the arcade were watching him by the last dance. And then he tells me he is "out of practice"... I can't wait for the recording... well, I guess I can. =) 555

This moves along smoothly, just like a dance
MrMacphisto - November 15, 2007 - Report this comment
Good enough to make you wanna dance... 5-5-5

Well, I've got a whole collection of left feet, Dave...so I'll pass on a DDR challenge against you. But this was a fun parody. 555
Agrimorfee - November 15, 2007 - Report this comment
(Dec) I was dancing along and enjoying every minute. Neat way to introduce another character into the song in the middle.
Matthias - November 19, 2007 - Report this comment
One of my favorite Green Day songs, and since we all know you're a whiz-kid at Green Day, and what I hear from Red Ant you're a whiz-kid in DDR, this is a prefect combination.

I enjoyed this a lot! As a fellow DDR maniac, I love the little references (Drop Out, Matsuri Japan) that I got without your asterisks. 555, sir, 555! Hell, I'd give it a 101010 if possible!

Thanks Ravyn Rant, Spawn, Red Ant, Macphisto, AFW, Kristof, Agrimorfee, Matthias and Kaosblaze! As long as those tens aren't variations of Max 300 back to back, you've got it;) Drop Out is one of favorite classics, it was my first 9 step which was completed successfully, and Matsuri Japan was my first AA on a Heavy 9. . .I wanted to fit Sakura in (my first 10 step) but this was fun to perform and write, and I'm glad everyone is enjoying it as much as I did!

(Dec 2.0) Haven't played DDR, but I know of it - enough to download your recording because it's just THAT AWESOME. The parody, that is.
Kristof Robertson - November 27, 2007 - Report this comment
(Dec 2.4) Nope...still can't dance (but I'm a master at standing still and looking cool...) ;-)
Phil Alexander - November 27, 2007 - Report this comment
Had to look up DDR... but I kind of had the idea what you were talking about. My children have something simpler that plugs into the TV - I know enough to know not to try it (especially if there's an audience)
stuart mcarthur - November 27, 2007 - Report this comment
(dec2.4) wow, I am learning about a lot of cool stuff with this round - there's a similar game where my kids try to out-sing each other which is fun, but out-dancing would be hilarious - 555

So you're a dancing machine? Haven't played the game yet, but loved the recording, and loved the song! So...do you need us all to dance backup for you? =)
Arwen - November 28, 2007 - Report this comment
Decathlon...I have to admit it...before I was a Guitar Hero, I joined the Dance Dance Revolution. SUCH a fun game...and frustrating, too! I related to this one, Dave!
Jack Wilson - November 28, 2007 - Report this comment
There was this guy at where we were the night of graduation playing DDR,someone who worked there, I swear he had rubber legs, he was goin crazy, probably exploded. Oh yeah 5s

DEC- I've tried playing a game similar to DDR once and needless to say i royally sucked. But your parody rocked. Good job, Dave!

Thank you TCOP, Kristof, Phi, Stu, Jeff (you'll have to see just how much so when you are down here), Arwen (fellow DDR fanatic), Jack Wilson (Rubber legs is a good and fair description:)), and Mikey

Great parody! Loved the Drop Out pun. I do great at home (I once beat Fascination Eternal Love Mix on Heavy), but I don't do as good at arcades. However, the arcade's music selection is superior! The PS2 never got Across the Nightmare, Himawari, or CaptivAte ~Chikai~. In one step, you got 555 shop points on DDR SuperNOVA for PS2!
Silver Power - June 02, 2009 - Report this comment
I am a heavy-moder DDR addict as well. I understood the references, which was always a plus. And Blaze, I am the opposite, I do better in arcades, with the more sturdy, non-sliding metal pads. And Dave, nice 555 combo.
DJ Blaze - June 02, 2009 - Report this comment
I don't really get to play DDR in the arcades as much as I'd like. The nearest arcade with DDR SuperNOVA is about an hour away. When I do get to play, I usually get at least A's. Sometimes I'll play an easier song as my Final Stage, AA it, and get an Extra Stage, which I last about 30 seconds on, sadly. If I tried a non-boss song as my Extra, then I probably could pass it, though.
Below Average Dave - June 03, 2009 - Report this comment
I too am best in the arcades, with the more sturdy pads--in fact I can't play nearly on the same level at home because the pads just are too flimsy. . .
DJ Blaze - June 03, 2009 - Report this comment
My main problem in arcades is that the step panels are lowered! I keep stepping on the metal outside instead of the panel! Other than that, I do fine. (Although sometimes I have to use the bar. Mainly when I'm tired, or the "Jump-step-jump-step-jump-step-jump-step" 8th note part at the end of Be Lovin' on Heavy.)
