"Nickelodeon Idiot 2: Kenan & Kel of Present Day"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

This is the second song from my Nickelodeon Idiot album parody. In this installment, Drake and Josh declare themselves the Kenan & Kel of Present Day, which is only half-true.
Part I: Kenan & Kel of Present Day

[A band made up of Drake Bell (Guitar, Vocals), Josh Peck (drums), and Danny Tamberelli (bass) plays this song.]

**Drake Bell singing**
We did the Amanda Show
Kenan & Kel of Present Day
The network of none of the above
With their steady diet of
Soda pop and Cheesy Puffs
No one on the show's named Kenan and Kel
As far as I can tell
At least the shows I got to play on

And there's nothing on TV
If you want some Pete & Pete
Put that show on DVD
Do you believe in me?

Get my television fix
Watching Channel 26
I'd go downstairs and play Double Dare
While my Mom and Dad were away
To fall in love with Classic Nick
Then Viacom will cancel it
Like Alex Mack
And the old All That
Anyone remember "Think Fast!"?

And there's nothing on TV
This ain't how Nick's supposed to be
Where are shows like Nick Arcade
Salute Your f**king Shorts?!

Part II: Channel of the Damned

[Mark Saul (Formerly of All That) joins in on acoustic guitar with a capo on the first fret.]

**Drake singing**
On the Channel 666
There's a talking sponge
'Bout a decade ago it had '90s Grunge
Our childhood was a lie

They'd have shows like Allen Strange
And the Animorphs
Remember that show
With the children's "court"?
It ran till '89

Channel of the dead
One conceived from another lost network
Sigh, we really miss these shows
Channel of the damned
Poor children who never saw the Nineties
No one really seems to know

I read the All That book
Written way back when
Like the holy scriptures of a dog named Ren
It was a comedy fest

It said a whole bunch
And it finally confirmed that
The greatest show on earth
Is the best in the world
And this show, I really miss

Where is Alex Mack,
Aaahhh Real Monsters, Salute Your Shorts, Rugrats
Least they kept Amanda's Show
Channel of the Damned
Where's You Can't Do That On Television?
No one really seems to know

Part III: I Don't Know

Hey!

I don't know, no one knows
I don't know, no one knows
I don't know if you don't know

I don't know if you don't
I don't know, no one knows
I don't know if you don't know

I don't know, no one does
I don't know, no one knows
I don't know if you don't know

I don't know, no one knows
I don't know, no one does
I don't know if you don't know
I don't know!!!

[Drake gets drenched in slime from saying, "I don't know!" just like on You Can't Do That on Television]

Nick today is so full of s***!
Avatar makes me throw a fit!
Shows were classics but never saved!
Fell into their early graves!
Cartoons today sure make me sick!
From Anime' to the Loonatics!
We are the graduated children of
The Classic Nickelodeon

Land of Pete & Pete
And it don't believe in me
We want DVDs
If they're not released
Then I don't know!
I don't know!
I don't know!
I don't know!
I don't know!

Part IV: All That 10th Anniversary

The All That cast finally reunites
The anniversary of All That '95
There are some no-shows you can surely find
I don't see Lori Beth, and where's Amanda Bynes?

(Oooooh Oooooh
Oooooh Oooh Oooh)

Oh Kenan Thompson, can you fill the void?
You're now on SNL, is Kel now unemployed?
You did Good Burger and I prayed for Kel
For lack of a better word, the other guy's from heck

(Oooooh Oooooh
Oooooh Oooh Oooh)

Part V: Soon Will Return the Classic Nick

Salute Your f**king Shorts
The orig - inal All That
The Hid - den Temple show
The World of Alex Mack

And I must rewind
This current flow of f**king time
I watched religiously
This Nick that rests in peace
So I run, I run away
Why be owned by MTV?

And I must rewind
This current flow of f**king time
And why show Slime Time
A million and one f**king times?
I see no rhyme

(Guitar solo)

[Piano breakdown; piano is played by Rocko]

I miss the former Nick
I won't apologize
Post-Nineties shows make me so sick

I watched you every day
Till you got pulverized
Soon will return the Classic Nick

Bring it back
Bring it back
Bring back Classic Nick!

I don't think so, Joel. Dominic L. recently did a whole-album parody of this as well, called American Idol. I think there is actually a classic Nick channel on digital cable, I wish I could get that, along with classic VH1 (another Viacom network that uncoincidentially went down the tubes around the same time as Nick) And it's funny that you get it on channel 26, it's channel 25 around here.

There is no Classic Nick channel other than Nicktoons (which features Rocko, Spongebob, My Dad the Rock Star, Fairly Oddparents, Invader Zim, the Angry Beavers, and heavily-cut Ren & Stimpy, etc.) and Nick GAS (Which shows GUTS, Get the Picture, Double Dare 2000, Figure It Out, Nick Arcade, Finders Keepers, Hidden Temple, etc.) and that's it, except for the regular Nickelodeon channel. I wish they WOULD give us a Classic Nick channel with all of their shows from our childhood.

(SOTM) Turns out Amanda Bynes is in some goofball "teen reverse-Tootsie" hgh concept "comedy called "She's The Man". Should be a cinematic watershed. Good songwriting, captured the spirit of the Nick shows with Green Day's album...the testing of the drafts you posted on the message board must have paid off.

(SOTM) See above!

The only Nick show I've ever watched was Doug, however Jesus of Suburbia is an extreamly hard song to spoof, and you've done it that takes skills.

(SOTM) Wow do I feel old now. I know most of the Classic Nick shows because my daughter watched them. This is an amazing effort, I really enjoyed it.

SOTM - I don't know if it's because much of this never made it to my country, or if it's due to my age, or both, but most of this flew right under my radar.

(SOTM) I got right into the Amanda Show, and Kyle, etc. with my kids, although I don't know many of the other references

(SOTM) not too shabby, not too shabby at all. ok, maybe a little shabby. i miss old nick. but i think "drake and josh" rocks. "pete and pete" is classic, and i often experience withdrawal symptons from not having seen this show in 10+ years

(SOTM) This gets the award for biggest song MP3 file I've ever downloaded (16+MB). Many good subs especially in Part 1. I did get a little lost in part 2, but I was half-expecting them to cut into Bryan Adam's Summer of '69. Most of the name references were lost on me, but this still kept me interested 'til the end. I DO remember watching "You Can't Do That On Television" (now I feel old). Great show. I agree with Cat too; the only thing Viacom has touched that hasn't turned into a steaming pile is Comedy Central (even the B&B DVDs I got were awful; no music videos and all the "Fire" episodes were missing). Great job on a hard song.

(SOTM) DKTOS, but...um...I don't even know the content! Um...er...this is a bit embarrassing...goodbye now!
Phil Alexander - March 24, 2006 - Report this comment
However tempted I am to say I DKTOS therefore I'll vote 3 for pacing, that would be kind of childish... however, I don't particularly like the OS and found even this rather tiresome by the end
wannabemustangjockey - March 30, 2006 - Report this comment
SOTM - Sadly even I remember a lot of those shows but I haven't heard this OS all the way through in about a year. Interesting but pacing maybe ....?

(SOTM) HEY -- where IS Amanda Bynes, anyway?
Arwen - April 01, 2006 - Report this comment
SOTM...yeah, ever since I stopped watching "You Can't Do That on Television," life has had a little less meaning. Seriously. I still cringe a little bit in anticipation whenever I accidentally say "I don't know."
