The Lyrics

As a professional dork, I tend to pepper my sentences with references to my favourite pieces of media. However, I know that if I were to do this around people who weren't family, they'd be thoroughly confused as to what I'm babbling about. This is a parody about that!
Ref'rences, I love to make them
Can't stop quotin' the films I love to my friends
Sad thing is, said friends of mi-ine
They always fail to recognise
The witty banter I just recited, they don't get

Near ev'ry da-ay it goes ove-er their heads
Just say "oka-ay", it leaves me reelin'
Please get tha-at, please get tha-at ref're-ence
They've not seen it? Should get tha-at, should get tha-at
My brain's pleadin'

You may say it's a ta-ad outra-ageous
To say that all my mates should watch my fa-ave shows
To get what I recite
Wouldn't put it that way, ri-ight
But man, it would be nice
Won't miss the blank faces they give me ev'ry time

"Is that a pla-ay?" No, that's Fifth E-Element
"Is that from Bra-ave?" Again I'm reelin'
It's not tha-at, it's not tha-at, damn i-it
Leaves me ragin', won't get tha-at, won't get tha-at
So frustrati-in'

I just want them to-o-o turn one da-ay
Have that look tha-at says "I ge-et you"
That kno-owi-in', wi-inkin' smile

I know it's la-ame that this makes me so pissed
But let me sa-ay I know that feelin'
"Don't get tha-at, don't get tha-at ref're-ence"
So confusin'
"Where was tha-at, where was tha-at from, frie-iend?"
I feel so stupid
Please get tha-at, please get tha-at ref're-e-e-e-ence
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, ah-ah

This wasn't intentional (as I hadn't heard the song before writing the parody), but I realised halfway through that the early-2000's super-angsty rock sound really highlights how first-world-problem-y this topic is.
