The Lyrics

When Pirate Party leader Rick Falkvinge was asked why he's opposing Western Civilization Governments increasing snooping into ordinary citizens' lifes, storage of every e-mail sent, recording of every cell phone called and outsourcing of police work to unaccountable private businesses, he said "I survived the 80s, they can't scare me with terrorism". Maybe you need to have been there during those last cold war years to fully appreciate the brilliant point he was making with that short answer, but I was, so here's a song about it.

We were surviving all through the 80s
We were surviving the cold war times
We were surviving all through the 80s
We were surviving the cold war grime

I got news for you
We weren't killed in the 80s, the 80s
I got news for you
We weren't shot in the 80s, the 80s
I got news for you
We weren't bombed in the 80s, the 80s
I got news for you
We weren't nuked in the 80s

Yeah

We had integrity in the 80s
Yet there was Arafat at the time
We had integrity in the 80s
Yet there was Gorbatjov on the line

I got news for you
We had peace in the 80s, the 80s
I got news for you
We had jobs in the 80s, the 80s
I got news for you
We had cash in the 80s, the 80s
I got news for you
We did fine in the 80s

Yeah

We were surviving all through the 80s
We were surviving the cold war grime
We were surviving all through the 80s
We were surviving the cold war times

I survived the 80s and I'd love to survive them again. Respect between political rivals (Ronnie and Tip O'Neil, for starters), great movies, great clothes styles, great music, great TV, career oppurtunities, advances in space exploration, great books, great hair styles, Rubik's Cube and classic video games like Pac-Man, Zaxxon, Frogger and MORE! However not everything was rosy. The early 80s were mired in a heavy post-Vietnam War recession. We also had wars: in Lebanon, Grenada, Libya, the "Tanker War" with Iran and Panama at the end of the decade. But hey, we buried the hatchet with the Russian Bear and optimism was very high. It showed that superpower rivalries don't have to lead to nuclear suicide. The 90s started off peacefully then some fickle fools decided that all the efforts and work towards bringing peace and freedom amounted to nothing and war became a form of entertainment. A disease spread in society and fashion. The 00s totally SUCKED THE BUTT. Great parody. Love it. Take me down to the Paradise City where the grass is green and the girls are pretty - take me home, yeah yeah...

Thought-provoking intro and parody. I survived the 80s, which had a lot of good history, but they didn't have AmiRight.

I was not familiar with Pirate Party leader Rick Falkvinge, but after reading about his party's advocacy of the decriminalization of file sharing with copyrighted music, I think he is worthy of several parodies by himself!
