The producer asked where they got the name. They said, "We're aiming for the top." So the producer suggested "The Four Tops." It took a while, but the rest is history. Michael Pacholek
Bubba Sparxxx Born and Raised in Georgia. He was always the youngest, running around, getting dirty. His family started calling him Bubba. Like, "Bubba, get yo' ass in the tub." He also thought, "What better name for a white dude from the South than Bubba?" Sparxxx is the hip-hop side. Like, "Let's spark it." The xxx is the unknown variables, expect the unexpected. Wolveroses
Brides of Destruction Nikki Sixx, bass player in Brides of Destruction (also Motley Crue), said in an interview that they didn't use their first name pick, Cockstar, because record company CEOs didn't like it, second pick Motordog was taken, and "Brides of Destruction is about the coolest name since Lords of the New Church."  Marianne
ArnoCorps Inspired by the emotional vocal delivery from bands in the genre of "Emo-Core". The band writes and sings songs about Arnold movies, so they called their music "Arno-Core". Shoes Named by the band's bassist, John Murphy. His brother Jeff told me that it was picked simply because it was something common. Many believe that the band picked this name because the Beatles, when asked why they picked their name, said that they could have called themselves the Shoes. Well, the Beatles indeed said that, but the guys in Shoes (never has been a 'the" in front of their moniker) weren't familiar with this quip and were later startled, and pleasantly surprised, by it. Rick Gregory

Wings" and he decided to name his newly formed band after this vision! Maccamaniac
Jethro Tull Jethro Tull was the man who invented the seed drill. A sad, pointless fact I learned studying the industrial revolution in sophmore world history, his contributions revolutionized farming and blah de blah, the industrialized world we live in today. Why they picked to name their band after a farming mechanic from the 1880's escapes me luc
Depeche Mode this name was introduced by David Gahan when he joined the band once called Composition Of Sound whose members were Vincent Clarke, Martin Gore and Andrew Fletcher. He took it by a french magazine dealing with fashion. Everybody thinks that its meaning is "fast fashion" but David explained that its real meaning is "news about fashion".  Mrs_Gahan
311 Actually, 311 is what the cops wrote on the ticket when one of P-Nut's friends was arrested for skinny-dipping in Omaha. They also have a bunch of other explanations. Like in mythology, 3 is man and 11 is magic, so "male magic". And they used to say that 3 minutes and 11 seconds is the perfect length for a song. There's no ONE explanation. pixie

Pink Floyd I was in London in 1966-67 and had friends in a multilevel brownstone house--a commune, really--at 101 Cromwell Road in southwest London. The house had two cats, Pink and Floyd, and I was told that it was from the cats that Pink Floyd got its name. I didn't believe the story until I went to a swarming psychedelic party at the house and members of Pink Floyd showed up. That convinced me. I've since heard that Pink Floyd took its name from the first names of Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. I've wondered whether the cats weren't originally named after Anderson and Council, but I'm quite certain that the group more immediately took its name from the cats.  Rick Abrams

Queensryche Their EP, featuring Queen of the Reich was released and it took off, so the band, pressed for time, had to decide on a name. Queensryche was created from the song title, and the name has stuck ever since. Contrary to a comment elsewhere on amiright.com, it has nothing to do with a gay dictatorship. Stu Cazzo
