Virginia Dare was the first European child born in the New World, in Manteo, North Carolina, in August 1587, in the colony of Roanoke Island, which all the colonists were later missing from. John White (Virginia Dare's grandfather, who was the leader of the exposition, returned back to England for needed supplies. 3 years later, he returned (delayed by the Spanish Armada) in 1590, to find no trace of the colonists. It's highly suspected that they willingly joined an Indian tribe, near Croatoan Island, as the colonists carved the word Croatoan on a tree.
