Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

And she is Punkarelli, never took advice.
And she a punk who rarely ever took advice.
The Story: Back in high school I was sitting in my friend's room listening to this song. When that part came on, I cluelessly asked who Punkarelli is. She still makes fun of me whenever the song comes on. - Submitted by: Kate
Gina Pokerella, with her head on the floor. Gina Pokerello, Gina Pokeretta, some weird Mambo Italiano name
And she a punk who rarely ever took advice.
The Story: Translation of American accent to NZ understanding, I thought Gina Poccarella, was obvioulsy Italian and that means Catholic, so abortions are banned, She did it and topped herslef so her father Mariano Pizzarelli di Mafiosi would not strangle her for pissing off her priest Father Fiddlekiddarelli, and a la Popa ina Roma, ayyyy sitonit. Shadduppa you face - Submitted by: Tamisha Jonz
I cannot believe we never docked forty cents, we were only freshmen
I cannot believe we never died for these sins, we were only freshmen
The Story: My friend and I sat in the car while I brought up this misheard lyric. I had figured out the real words by then, but before I could bring up the correction, my friend who fancied himself a music expert, even having auditioned for the Verve Pipe, went on a long, I mean looooonnng ten minute speech about how "we never docked forty cents" meant we never paid our dues, blah blah blah, and the deep hidden meaning within. Then I finally corrected him with the right lyric, but I don't think he heard me. - Submitted by: Tony Young
I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins,
We were merely freshmen
I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were nearly Frenchmen..
The Story: A good friend heard me sing it and burst out laughing. I wasn't embarrassed, and still like my version! - Submitted by: James Jones
