Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Tommy Roe

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

I'm So Dizzy album at Amazon.com
Tommy Roe's, "Dizzy"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Like a world war, it never ends.
The Real Lyrics:
Like a whirlpool, it never ends.
The Story: Sang these lyrics in the car in front of my boyfriend, who looked at me as if I had lost it and said: A world war usually ends at some point, Tina! Hmm, he had a point. - Submitted by: Tina
Tommy Roe's, "Jam Up & Jelly Tight"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Jam roll and gelignite
The Real Lyrics:
Jam up and jelly tight
The Story: My sister thought he was singing 'jam roll and gelignite'! Around the same time in the Beano comic there'd be big boys' strips where criminals set off gelignite on a building, saying something to the effect of 'we got the jelly on this building...' so you can understand the confusion. - Submitted by: pickle*
Tommy Roe's, "Sweet Pea"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I finally got the Christmas tree working again
The Real Lyrics:
I finally got to whisper sweet words in her ear
The Story: "Sweet Pea" came out in the summer of 1966 when I was 8 years old. The previous December, my dad had a hard time getting all our Christmas tree lights to work. So when I heard this line, I misheard it as finally getting the Christmas tree working! - Submitted by: Yvette Bristle
