Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Humility's risin'
Promise gettin' low.
Humidity's rising
Barometers getting low.
The Story: I sang this song at my school, and I got the most confused looks from the audience. Let's just say for every song I perform now, it's a trip to lyrics.com before every performance! - Submitted by: Glacia Knight
I'm raving mad.
It's raining men.
The Story: One evening a girl that I worked beside was having a little sing song to herself in the elevator. She knew the tune fine, but her lyrics were well off. It turns out she had been singing the wrong words at the top of her lungs for years and could never understand why people laughed at her. - Submitted by: Pauline Lindsay
Israeli men
It's raining men.
The Story: I was in a club in Tel Aviv. Everyone was enthusiastic, knew when to clap and sung the chorus, which I thoroughly misheard. I always thought it was strange. It took years for the penny to drop. - Submitted by: Matt Mid
It's raving mad
It's raining men.
The Story: I hear this throughout the song and am convinced that it is what is actually sung (never mind what's on the song sheet). In at least one place, grammatically it makes more sense than the official lyrics: "absolutely raving mad" sounds like real English — "absolutely raining men" doesn't! - Submitted by: Peter versus Pan
Rough and tough and as strong as me
Rough and tough and strong and mean
The Story: Because I lift weights and do martial arts and am really big, so I am pretty rough and tough, and I'm the best and most toughest person that I know. So 'rough and tough and as strong as me' is a pretty big ask for everyone else to try and match, and if it was raining people who were as strong and tough as me, the ladies would all think it was great. Just like the mood the song is on about. Plus, it rains every single day in England, where I'm from. I reckon my lyrics are better. - Submitted by: Billy Idol
Topless Mother Nature
God bless Mother Nature
The Story: I swear Mother Nature was topless. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
