Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> The Waitresses

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of The Waitresses album at Amazon.com
The Waitresses', "Christmas Wrapping"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Completing sanctioned actions.
The Real Lyrics:
Completions and connections.
The Story: I could not figure out what else that lyric was saying until I looked it up. Apparently my brain didn't want to hear a song about romance, it wanted to hear a song about the frustrations of a government assassin that has been trying to finish off this one guy for a whole year. - Submitted by: Chilly
The Waitresses', "Christmas Wrapping"
The Misheard Lyrics:
That’s delicious, that’s delicious,
But I think I’ll eat some corn this year
The Real Lyrics:
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas
But I think I’ll miss this one this year
The Story: My mom and I were watching bird videos on the internet and we saw one bobbing its head to this song, The way it sounded being played in the room it was recorded in caused reverb, and with how quickly those lyrics are sung, that’s what we thought it was. - Submitted by: Whisker Haven Pumpkin
