Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).
I'll Be There for You album at Amazon.com
You're still in bed at ten and work again at eight
You've earned your breakfast so far things are going great.
You're still in bed at ten and work began at eight
You've burned your breakfast so far things are going great.
The Story: Back when this song was popular, I worked an evening job at a pizza joint and I was often still in bed at ten and was working later that night at eight (though my shift began at 3:30). And since I earned very little money, pretty much the only thing I could afford was my breakfast (or lunch or dinner). So, for these reasons, I interpreted the lyrics the way I did. - Submitted by: Chris
I'll be an a**hole to you
I'll be there for you
The Story: This is only obvious when it's heard on TV or video recordings - the extra reverb of the recording makes it extremely difficult to distinguish the words during the show's opening sequence. The effect isn't heard at all on audio-only recordings. - Submitted by: Mr. Timm
When it hasn't been your day, we come on, believin' you're here.
When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month or even your year.
The Story: I think this is MUCH better for a TV theme song.. and so even after being corrected, still sing it this way. - Submitted by: Dan G
You're still in bed at Ted's
And work again at Ace
You've earned your breakfast so far
Things are going Grace
You're still in bed at ten
And work again at eight
You've burned your breakfast so far
Things are going great
The Story: Working at a place with the helpful hardware folks is just like the crew who went to Central Perk. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Your job's a joke you're broke,
You're white so it's ok
Your job's a joke you're broke,
Your love life's D.O.A.
The Story: I don't know why but I always heard it that way. Kinda racist when I think about it 😂 - Submitted by: Adam
