Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> The Misfits

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Misfits', "Halloween"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Punching faces in the night
I remember Halloween
Dead kids hacked up footballs.
The Real Lyrics:
Pumpkin faces in the night
I remember Halloween
Dead cats hanging from poles.
The Story: Basically driving around a north Texas town with a bunch of buddies listening to Misfits. One pipes up from the back seat: 'Did he say 'Dead kid's hacked up footballs?'' - Submitted by: Josh Fuller
The Misfits', "Last Caress"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Do you love me back
I was waiting for your death
Only that one last caress
The Real Lyrics:
Sweet lovely death
I was waiting for your breath
Come sweet death, one last caress
The Story: This song was part of the soundtrack to the video game True Crime: New York City, making it one of my most-listened-to Misfits songs and even though I knew these weren't the correct lyrics (they don't make any sense) I never looked them up until a couple of years ago, so I've been singing the wrong lyrics probably hundreds of times and then living with them for about a decade. Let's just say they stuck. - Submitted by: Dr. Eggplant
The Misfits', "Saturday Night "
The Misheard Lyrics:
There are 52 ways to flirt with anyone
The Real Lyrics:
There are 52 ways to murder anyone
The Story: Screaming this song at the top of my lungs, I will NEVER live this misheard lyric down (I was a kid, ok?! It was my first time listening to GOOD music). I will never forget my friend's baffled face that I could ACTUALLY believe the Misfits would sing about flirting. & yeah, I know this song isn't the "real" misfits, but it's still a good song. - Submitted by: Heather
