Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> The Isley Brothers

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Misheard Lyrics:
I might as well sign
My name of a card which could say, 'If that uh
Time will tell
'Cause it seems that I've done just about all that I can do.
The Real Lyrics:
I might as well
Sign my name on a card which could say it better
Time will tell
‘Cause it seems that I’ve done just about all that I can do.
The Story: I was about 14 years old when this song came out (about 1974). I was still singing the same wrong lyrics in 1993 when my new bride who is 13 years younger than me and born in 1973 began laughing when I was singing the song and corrected me. I don't think I was ever really sure about those lyrics anyway, but when you love a song and just want to sing it...I guess you just have to find a way to make it work. The Misheard Lyrics:
A little bit something now
The Real Lyrics:
A little bit softer now
The Story: I thought I heard "A little bit something now" until I saw a question about it on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire that it was actually "A little bit softer now". - Submitted by: Cody Finke
