Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Anna Cecile
Our lips are sealed.
The Story: My husband and I were just dating at the time. All of a sudden he turns to me and says, 'What did you just sing?' Of course, I replied, 'Our lips are sealed.' At which point he just got real quiet until he finally told me he always thought it was 'Anna Cecile'. He still hates it when I tell this story :) - Submitted by: Joy Schreck

Hollister Stier
Our lips are sealed.
The Story: I had just graduated Pharmacy School when this song came out. I had to learn the names of all of the companies that make pharmaceuticals and their products. One company that made allergy products was called Hollister Stier.(pronounced 'steer'). I thought it was strange that The Go-Gos would be singing about some medical business in Spokane, Washington. True story though. - Submitted by: Tim Andrews
Honest, Lucille!
Our lips are sealed.
The Story: I was under the impression that this song was about a secret lesbian relationship, with the singer promising 'Lucille' she would never tell anyone about it. - Submitted by: JB
Honestly feel.
Our lips are sealed.
The Story: I thought the lead voice sounded like Pat Benatar, so I logged onto her website and listened to trax throughout her discography in order to determine the lyrics of the song. I must have listened to eighty songs before giving up and figuring that I misheard the lyric! As it turns out, I didn't even have the artist right! - Submitted by: Mike

The Story: I thought it was funny seeing the Duff sister's sing this song seeing as how I thought it was about forbidden sexual feeling for a girl. - Submitted by: Jason Wiens
I love Cecile!
Our lips are sealed.
The Story: My little sister thought this was a very progressive lesbian love song defying the teenybopper image of Belinda Carlisle and crew. She wondered how they got away with such blatant homosexuality in the 80's. - Submitted by: TastyTrixie

Honest I feel.
Our lips are sealed.
The Story: I was telling a friend about the book ''Scuse Me While I Kiss this Guy' and telling him some of the misheard lyrics. I told him 'Some people think the Go-Gos are singing 'Island of Seals.'' And he said, 'Oh, that's funny, because it's 'Honest I Feel.' What dummies!' And I had to laugh and tell him he was the dummy. - Submitted by: Liz
Honest I feel.
Our lips are sealed.
The Story: I told my husband the story of 'Alex the Seal:', because my brother in law actually sings the song this way to his baby while he plays in the tub with his toy seal. Then my husband explained to me that he always thought it was 'Honest I feel.' How can you go so long without knowing the real words? It's beyond me. - Submitted by: Honest I feel
