Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> The Friends of Distinction

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Golden Classics album at Amazon.com
The Friends of Distinction's, "Grazing in the Grass"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Are you bigger, baby?
The Real Lyrics:
Can you dig it, baby?
The Story: I thought it had to do with being bigger! Anyway, I realize it's a retooling of what was originally an instrumental by Hugh Masekela with added lyrics! - Submitted by: Cody Finke
The Friends of Distinction's, "Love or Let Me Be Lonely"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I can't live without you if I wanted to in this lovely room
But I don't want you so I'll leave it up to you to wash away the blues
The Real Lyrics:
I can live without you if I wanted to in this lonely room
But I don't want to so I'll leave it up to you to wash away the gloom
The Story: The fast-paced singing in the choruses sometimes make it hard to understand what they actually say, so this is how I sometimes thought it was. I seriously think Boy George and his band Culture Club really stole the melody in their hit song "Karma Chameleon". - Submitted by: Cody Finke
