Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Supertramp

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Supertramp's, "Babaji"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Mama gee
or
Apology
The Real Lyrics:
Babaji
Supertramp's, "Bloody Well Right"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Write your problems down in a Q-Tip
The Real Lyrics:
Write your problems down in detail
The Story: Just as I've listened to this song, I cannot get this misheard lyric out of my head, even though I'm not even American so we don't even say Q-Tip here. - Submitted by: Jason
Supertramp's, "Breakfast in America"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Well, there's nothing bad to do
The Real Lyrics:
Well, there's nothing better to do
The Story: Despite this not being a hit in America, I thought I heard "nothing bad". - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Supertramp's, "Dreamer"
The Misheard Lyrics:
So now put your hand in your head
or
So now put your hand in your hand
or
So now put your head in your head
The Real Lyrics:
So now put your head in your hands
The Story: It kind of seemed like it had to do with confusing "head" for "hand" and vice versa - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Supertramp's, "Give a Little Bit"
The Misheard Lyrics:
(What you read, what you read)
The Real Lyrics:
(What you need, what you need)
The Story: It sounded like the backing vocals said "What you read". - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Supertramp's, "Goodbye Stranger"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Goodbye Larry, goodbye Jim
The Real Lyrics:
Goodbye Mary, goodbye Jane

Supertramp's, "It's Raining Again"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Come on you little spider
and get back up again
The Real Lyrics:
Come on you little fighter
and get back up again
The Story: When i was about 6 years old I always thought that that was he was singing about. Basically a spider that had been knocked down from something such as a tree branch by the rain and he needed to get back up again. Im now 39 and it still sounds like he says spider instead of fighter. - Submitted by: Glenn Littleboy
Supertramp's, "Potter"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I told this chick she could see my p****
And lay a cactus back in the confines of my home.
The Real Lyrics:
I told her strict she could see my prickled
Cactus back in the confines of my home.
The Story: On the Internet, there doesn't seem to be total agreement on what the lyrics really are here. (Is it for instance 'strict' or 'quick'?) For my part, I'm still pretty sure that my version is the correct one. At least, the hormone-filled teenager that I was when I first heard this song back in the mid-eighties was never in doubt that Potter was making a very direct proposal to some delicious broad. - Submitted by: Igor Molotov
Supertramp's, "The Logical Song"
The Misheard Lyrics:
the questions run so deep, a circus in my mind
The Real Lyrics:
the questions run so deep, for such a simple man
The Story: This has been one of my favorite songs for about 30 years and just today I found out I've been singing it wrong all these year. Oye vey! (I blame his accent). - Submitted by: Cary Null
