Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Stevie Ray Vaughn

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Stevie Ray Vaughn's, "Cold Shot"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Mexico shopping
The Real Lyrics:
That's a cold shot, babe.
The Story: I don't really like this song, or I probably would have listened more closely! I grew up in Tucson, Az, and lots of people went to Mexico to get pharmaceuticals. - Submitted by: Heather Gunn
Stevie Ray Vaughn's, "Wall of Denial"
The Misheard Lyrics:
In the small of the night, come stumblin' down.
The Real Lyrics:
When this wall of denial comes tumblin' down.
The Story: First off, I was in the front seat of my boyfriend's car so I was not REALLY listening to the iffy acoustics through the car stereo from the cassette TAPE, and besides I'm mesmerized by the crazy syncopation between the guitar licks. Much later, I was actually a little disappointed when I read the cassette jacket and found out the words weren't quite the poetry I first heard. I kinda like my "small of the night." - Submitted by: dwill
