Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Sheila E

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Sheila E's, "Belle of Saint Mark"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I'm in love with a fellow from Crakemarsh
The Real Lyrics:
I'm in love with the belle of Saint Mark.
The Story: Crakemarsh is a village in Staffordshire, England, near where I grew up. - Submitted by: Mike
Sheila E's, "The Glamorous Life"
The Misheard Lyrics:
She doesn't long for company, even in the summertime.
The Real Lyrics:
She wears a long fur coat of mink, even in the summertime.
The Story: I've always thought the lyrics I misheard were right, and it changed the whole idea of the song for me. I had the idea that the song was about a driven career woman who was obsessed with making money and let it get in the way of romance. The actual lyrics make her sound more like a party girl, which is probably the intent of the song. - Submitted by: Chris
