Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Seals And Crofts

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Seals and Crofts', "Diamond Girl"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Na Na Na, you sure do shine
The Real Lyrics:
Diamond Girl, you sure do shine
The Story: I was 11 when this came out. Even though the song is called "Diamond Girl" - that's what I heard at that time. I guess I was too young to even care that it made no sense. It was just fun to sing. Also, I'm sure I was influenced by the 1969 song Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye by Steam in 1969. I still can't un-hear those misheard lyrics to this day - Lol - Submitted by: Ed

The Misheard Lyrics:
Such a rare thing, radium shine
The Real Lyrics:
Such a rare thing, radiant child
The Story: I was reminded of this by an article this week at The Atlantic, "How We Realized Putting Radium in Everything Was Not the Answer" ("Gone are the days when the only way to make butter seem even healthier was to name it after a radioactive element."). - Submitted by: Scott Lahti

The Story: Singing at the top of my lungs in the car, my high school boyfriend said, 'What did you say?' We laughed for hours. Now my grown kids get to laugh at Mom. - Submitted by: Peg
