Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Rockwell

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Somebody's Watching Me album at Amazon.com
Rockwell's, "Somebody's Watching Me"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I always feel like somebody’s washing me.
The Real Lyrics:
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
The Story: I told asked my mom if that was the lyrics when I was younger, and she said that it was not the case, but in her opinion it would be much scarier than someone watching you. It’s now a family joke to sing ‘washing’ instead of ‘watching’. - Submitted by: Wahoo
Rockwell's, "Somebody's Watching Me"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I always feel like you are my one disease.
The Real Lyrics:
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
The Story: The first time I heard this song and I thought Michael Jackson was saying "I always feel like you are my one disease," I thought THOSE were the original lyrics, and I enjoyed the song so much that I wanted to hear it again, and I had to search for the song using the misheard lyrics over the phone because the song debuted in early 1984 and we didn't have the Internet back then. But now I know that Michael's actually saying "I always feel like somebody's watching me." - Submitted by: Selfish Sam
Rockwell's, "Somebody's Watching Me"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I want a steamroller, somebody's watching me!
The Real Lyrics:
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
The Story: Well i was about 6 years old and with Afrikaans as my primary language, I have always believed that they wanted a steamroller.... Only recently when Googleing the song I found the true lyrics... Lol - Submitted by: Chrissi
Rockwell's, "Somebody's Watching Me"
The Misheard Lyrics:
When I go home at night
The Real Lyrics:
When I come home at night
The Story: It seems to get me confused between "come" and "go". It has to do with the horror theme in this song. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
