Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Rob Thomas

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Lonely No More/Fallen album at Amazon.com
Rob Thomas', "Lonely No More"
The Misheard Lyrics:
And I can do your girlfriends.
The Real Lyrics:
Like you do your girlfriends.
The Story: When I first heard this song, I thought that Rob was somewhat of an insincere guy. It sounded as if as soon as she opened up to him, he'd run around on her. Today I heard his song, and got the lyrics right. - Submitted by: Chris Duncan
Rob Thomas', "Lonely No More"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Now it's hard for me when my heart's still on the mend
Open up to me-I could do your girlfriends.
The Real Lyrics:
Now it's hard for me when my heart's still on the mend
Open up to me-Like you do your girlfriends.
The Story: It took a lot of searching for the real lyrics to find the right ones. Up until then, I just thought Rob Thomas had a sick sense of humor. - Submitted by: Eiri
Rob Thomas', "Lonely No More"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Open up to me and let me do your girlfriends.
The Real Lyrics:
Open up to me like you do your girlfiends.
The Story: The idea that he'd be singing to a girlfriend/wife about somehow opening up their relationship to include her friends is pretty funny---if you think about it! - Submitted by: Marty

The Misheard Lyrics:
Open up to me
And I can do your girlfriends.
The Real Lyrics:
Open up to me
Like you do your girlfriends.
The Story: I was pretty much confused at how Rob's suggesting that he sleep around with his intended's friends was supposed to win her over...until I bought the cd and read the lyric book. I still think it sounds like my lyrics, though...=) - Submitted by: Arwen
Rob Thomas', "Lonely No More"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Open up to me
And I could do your girlfriend.
The Real Lyrics:
Open up to me
Like you do your girlfriends.
The Story: My fiance and I both thought that was what he said the first time we heard it on the radio. We thought maybe Rob Thomas was confessing to being a swinger or something. I still hear the wrong lyrics in my head, even though I know the correct ones now. - Submitted by: Sugarandspite

The Real Lyrics:
Open up to me
Like you do your girlfriends.
The Story: I was on a date with my girlfriend the first time I heard this song on the radio. I asked her if she'd 'do' Rob Thomas? This got me slapped. I wondered for two weeks why she slapped me so hard. I was just commenting about a lyric in a song. Then I saw Rob sing this on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", and I quickly turned on the closed caption feature on my TV. I figured out why she slapped me. - Submitted by: Dan Fletcher
