Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Rizzle Kicks

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Rizzle Kicks', "Get Down with The Trumpets"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Yeah, yeah
Let's get down with the choc-lits,
Let's get down with the choc-lits,
Let's get down with the choc-lits
Let's get down with the choc-lits
The Real Lyrics:
Yeah, yeah
Let's get down with the trumpets,
Let's get down with the trumpets,
Let's get down with the trumpets,
Let's get down with the trumpets
The Story: Firstly, I didn't just mishear the lyrics once, no I misheard them four times repeatedly!! Like anyone I have to sing along to the radio whenever I am in the car, and being in rural Devon that was A LOT and generally with my two children (at the time 14 & 9) who would also sing along!! They failed to point out my faux pas and it was only by chance when I took a friends 22yr old daughter to work, (a good six months down the line), that she questioned me, barely containing her amusement, 'what are you singing?' 'Get down with the choc-lits! Why?'. 'What are choc-lits?' she asked, 'I've got no idea; drugs or slang for dark skinned people!' She couldn't contain herself any longer, laughing hysterically all the way to work, where she proceeded to tell everyone about it, she came home told her mum and sister, this rapidly spread throughout their large family and into the rest of the village! For months I endured 'Hey I can get you some choc-lits' & 'you got down with any choc-lits lately?' - Submitted by: D Woollam
