Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> R. Dean Taylor

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Misheard Lyrics:
In the animal suite
The Real Lyrics:
Indiana wants me
The Story: I think I was a bit taken in by the psychedelia of the time, and I didn't think too much about what I thought was just another surreal lyric. I'd never heard of Indiana until I was 14! - Submitted by: John
R. Dean Taylor's, "Indiana Wants Me"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Indiana was mean
Lord, I can't grow back hair.
The Real Lyrics:
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there.
The Story: I grew up listening to all kinds of music. I'm originally from Indiana. As far as I knew, there wasn't a song about Indiana. I thought it was a pretty cool song, but I couldn't understand why he was saying that Indiana was mean. I most certainly couldn't figure out why he was so concerned with this lack of back hair. - Submitted by: Blair
