Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> New Order

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

New Order's, "Bizarre Love Triangle"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I feel a shot right through with a boat of poo.
The Real Lyrics:
I feel shot right through with a bolt of blue.
The Story: Actually it sounded even more like "boat of poo" when it was redone by Frente! That was the version where I had decided that was the lyric. My wife could never understand that line and wanted me to find out the real words...so here I am! - Submitted by: Jeff Gerstl
New Order's, "Bizarre Love Triangle"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I feel shocked right through with a bowl of poo
The Real Lyrics:
I feel shocked right through with a bolt of blue
The Story: Poo is funnier! - Submitted by: Nathan M.
New Order's, "Blue Monday"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Thought I was forsaken
The Real Lyrics:
Thought I was mistaken
The Story: Kept thinking if it was forsake or mistake. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
New Order's, "Ceremony"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Howard Hughes
Oh lime with trees.
The Real Lyrics:
Avenues
All lined with trees.
The Story: I happily sang along with the wrong lyric for about 15 years--until I realised my error. I still think a song about Howard would be fun. - Submitted by: CuanaD
New Order's, "Confusion"
The Misheard Lyrics:
The future
The Real Lyrics:
Confusion
The Story: Used to hear it as "the future". - Submitted by: Cody Finke
New Order's, "Regret"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I would like to play second colaphone
The Real Lyrics:
I would like a place I could call my own
The Story: I thought maybe a colaphone was a musical instrument, and the subject would be playing second string, thus second colaphone. - Submitted by: Jimmy
New Order's, "The Perfect Kiss"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Pretending not to see his goat
I said let's go out and have some fun
The Real Lyrics:
Pretending not to see his gun
I said let's go out and have some fun
The Story: I wasn't paying attention to what Bernard was singing. It still causes me to laugh at inappropriate times. - Submitted by: A Goat
New Order's, "Truth"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Some people go down on me
I hope they like what they see
The Real Lyrics:
Some people look down on me
I know they like what they see
The Story: I don't know if it was a thing with Martin Hannett's production or I need my ears cleaning but I really thought it was that for the longest time. I can't tell you how disappointed that they're not the real lyrics. - Submitted by: David Murphy
New Order's, "Waiting for the Sirens' Call"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Waiting for a star to fall
The Real Lyrics:
Waiting for the sirens' call
The Story: I thought it was a reference to a Boy Meets Girl song! - Submitted by: Cody Finke
New Order's, "Your Silent Face"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Rise, and follow Shane.
The Real Lyrics:
The rise and fall of shame
The Story: I knew I was hearing the lyrics wrong, but didn't know the right words. I got a copy of a copy of a copy (etc) of this song from a friend who happened to idolize our mutual friend Shane, so I thought my misheard version was pretty funny. - Submitted by: e
