Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Minnie Riperton

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Minnie Riperton's, "Lovin' You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Loving you, I see your soul come shining through.
And every day that we, ooh.
I'm more in loving you.
The Real Lyrics:
Loving you, I see your soul come shining through.
And every day that we, ooh.
I'm more in love with you.
The Story: The first time ever I hear this song was several years ago where I just know "Lovin' You" and I don't know who singing "Lovin' You". The last time ever I hear this song was on Thursday, 27 July 2017, in the midnight nearly morning when a radio station playing "Lovin' You" in a radio edit version that clocking at 3 minutes and 21 seconds. When I hear that, it is sweetly and more romantic. Previously, I hear this song in the film, "The Wild", just several seconds before the music were cut. And later when I googling this song, it is Minnie, the first singer ever who performing this song. For the lyrical content of this song, it is make no sense at all. About this song: There are two versions of "Lovin' You". The edited single version and the radio version is 3 minutes and 21 seconds long. In this version, the coda were fades out earlier. Many DJs and radio announcers fear with that coda. But, for me, I'm trying to be brave and let the coda ends at its right time. The unedited or album version is 3 minutes and 46 seconds long. In this version, the coda were make more longer than the radio version and ended cool that make me more better. The reason was why this song make me better with its cool end is a surprise. Because, it is rarely in any Billboard's Pop Chart or the UK Singles Chart hits with "Lovin' You" is the only exception. This song was recorded in 1974. At that time, Minnie have her baby daughter named Maya Rudolph. During the recording, Maya was in the studio with her mother on the day it was recorded and Minnie can be heard singing her daughter's name at the end. So, it was a surprise for Minnie during this recording that rarely found in any hit singles. Released as track #8 on her second studio album "Perfect Angel" on 9 August 1974 and later released as a single on 13 January 1975, it became a #1 hit on Billboard's Pop Chart on 5 April 1975. Additionally, it reaching #2 on the UK Singles Chart, #3 on Canada chart, #5 on Australia chart, #6 on the Netherlands chart, #7 on Belgium chart, and #11 on New Zealand chart. Billboard ranked it as the #13 song for 1975. It would be her major hit to date and also entering her into one-hit wonder fame. The song is especially significant due to Minnie's singing in the very high whistle register in the bridge. It is also noteworthy for the chirping songbirds heard throughout. "Lovin' You" was also featured on the soundtrack for the 2006 film, "The Wild", which was also featuring some scores on that soundtrack. "Lovin' You" was covered by Shanice for her album, "Inner Child", but only achieved minor success on the R&B chart (reaching #59) and the UK Singles Chart (#54). In 2005, she re-recorded the song again for her 2006 album, "Every Woman Dreams". - Submitted by: Wisnu Aji
