Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Mindy McCready

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

I'm Not So Tough album at
Mindy McCready's, "A Girls Gotta Do (What a Girls Gotta Do)"
The Misheard Lyrics:
The next thing I did was put my records on
And go downtown dancin' till the break of dawn
The Real Lyrics:
The next thing I did was put my red dress on
And go downtown dancing till the break of dawn
The Story: When I first heard Mindy McCready singing two years before her passing, My mom was doing spring cleaning while listening to Mindy's album Ten Thousand Angels, she turned me into a McCreadian because of A Girls Gotta Do (What a Girls Gotta Do). Anyway for 9 years, I always thought Mindy was singing "The next thing I did was put my records on" until after I rediscovered her and reading the lyrics online. I was like that ain't right. I played the song for my mom and asked her and she said "Mindy is singing Red Dress not Records" - Submitted by: Nathan D.
