Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Maurette Brown Clark

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Maurette Brown Clark's, "It Ain't Over"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Keep fighting, keep praying, keep fasting. It ain't Oprah, no. Keep pressing, progressing, keep moving. It ain't Oprah, no. Keep reading, interceding, keep believing. It ain't Oprah, no.
The Real Lyrics:
Keep fighting, keep praying, keep fasting. It ain't over, no. Keep pressing, progressing, keep moving. It ain't over, no. Keep reading, interceding, keep believing. It ain't over, no.
The Story: I heard this playing on the sound machine of some establishment I was in. Late in the song it came to a part where lines like these are repeated at least a few times. On first hearing these lines, I perceived that she was saying "It ain't Oprah," repeatedly. Before this section of the song ended, I got to questioning if perhaps her lines were repeatedly saying "It ain't over," instead. I got home and managed to search for these lyrics online, and finally finding them, I discovered that my suspicions, which grew about midway through hearing this section, were true, and that these lines assert "It ain't over,", not "It ain't Oprah,". - Submitted by: Karen Smith
