Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Lobo

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Lobo's, "A Simple Man"
The Misheard Lyrics:
And what the hell to say with the man?
or
What the elephant say with the man?
The Real Lyrics:
And what do elephants say when their mad?
The Story: I was very young and thought the way it was sung really sounded like "what the hell to say with the man". After some years I realised with was 'elephant', and relating to that elephants have supposedly good memories, perhaps this elephant was telling the man what it remembered, hence "what the elephant say with the man?" - Submitted by: Kenny
Lobo's, "I'd Love You To Want Me"
The Misheard Lyrics:
When I saw you standing there
A part fell off my chair.
The Real Lyrics:
When I saw you standing there
I about fell off my chair.
The Story: This was not my mis-hearing. It was printed as sub-titles on TV in Hong Kong. - Submitted by: graeme defty
Lobo's, "Me & You And A Dog Named Boo"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Old MacDonald, he made a squirt
But then he paid us for what it was worth.
The Real Lyrics:
Old MacDonald, he made us work
But then he paid us for what it was worth.
The Story: I just heard it this way as a naive little twerp in the seventies, and I derived no particular connotation from that twisted perception. - Submitted by: Phil Goodwin
Lobo's, "Me And You And A Dog Named Boo"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Me and you and a dog named Blue
Trippin' and a-livin' off the land
The Real Lyrics:
Me and you and a dog named Boo
Travellin' and livin' off the land
The Story: Just today, I adopted a dog named Blue. I made a beeline for him when I saw him, and fell in love with him immediately. When the agency lady told me his name, I said "I always wanted a dog named Blue because of that song "Me and You and a Dog Named Blue". Well, I was wrong about the title of the song, but Blue is a great name for a dog anyway! (He's a blue-nosed pit bull mix, to BOOt!) - Submitted by: Dave
Lobo's, "Me And You And A Dog Named Boo"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Me and you and a donkey, too.
The Real Lyrics:
Me and you and a dog named Boo.
The Story: My sister insisted it was a song about a donkey. We fought about it for years. Thanks for setting her straight, although I thought the dog's name was Blue! - Submitted by: Anna
