Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Liz Phair

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Liz Phair's, "Supernova"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Your eyelashes sparkle like Gilder Glass
And you lips are sweet and slippery like a cherub's belly laugh
or
Your eyeglasses sparkle like gilded gas
And your lips are sweet and slippery like a cherry-berry lash.
or
Your eyelashes sparkle like guilded brass
And your lips are sweet and slippery like a sheriff's bare red a**.
The Real Lyrics:
Your eyelashes sparkle like gilded grass
And your lips are sweet and slippery like a cherub's bare, wet a**.
The Story: Why would anybody guild brass, which is already gold and shiny in appearance? A sheriff's a** might be bare, and might be slippery, although it makes me pukey to think of it, but sweet? Choke! Obviously something's wrong here! - Submitted by: Rob Bird
Liz Phair's, "Why Can't I?"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Gonna take a walk, for it's safe to catch.
or
Gonna take a walk for it's sake to hatch.
or
Gonna take a walk for it's safe to crash.
The Real Lyrics:
Gonna take a while for this egg to hatch.
The Story: I found out the correct lyrics when I rented the DVD of the movie 'How To Deal' starring Mandy Moore. It's an interesting video, it shows Liz's face on different album covers the whole time. The lyrics of the song are displayed as titles for the CD covers, they are parodies of other albums, similar to the album cover parodies displayed on amiright.com! - Submitted by: David Pratter
